Hi all

I am thinking of changing my case fans on my P182, can you recommend any, I have been looking at sharkoon 2000 and Yate Loon D12SM-12.

Also would it be an idea to fit a fan controller or would I be ok to just swap the fans and use the built in controller

Thanks for helping

Either ones are excellent fans.

I would go for the Yate Loons though if it were me. I have 4 of them although they are the D12SL-12's. 1 Front, 1 Back, 1 Top and 1 on my Akasa Evo 120 and they shift some air while keeping quiet even on full whilst gaming.

Fan controllers are excellent ways to keep on top of the speeds of your fans. Its just the inconvenience of having extra wires going through your case but with a little time and some cable ties, it doesnt make any difference on air flow tbh.

Ive got some Xilence RedWings on the way. Read some mixed reviews about them, but as they are cheap, it doesnt matter tooo much :)

They are also going in an Antec P182, so, will give a report on them when the system is together.

look forward to hearing about them, good luck

Out of interest what are the stock P182 fans like? My P182 is on the way and I currently have 3 Sharkoon SE 2000's I can use in it and was thinking about buying 2 more fans if they all need replacing. I have a fan control already a Rheostat Sunbeam.

And sorry for the hijack but would the yate loon SM or SH be better running along side the Sharkoons on said fan controller? Could use a yate on my TRU120e.

JoeDredd I can keep you updated on my findings when my case arrives if you like.

I'm also looking forward to doing a side by side comparision of Sharkoon and Yate Loons.

I bought 3 D12SM-12 to replace the noisy Antec Tri-Cool and, out of curiosity wired them both into a breadboard testbed. At 12V the Antecs on 'low' shift noticeably more air than the YLs. You can feel it, it's obvious. At the high setting the Antec's will make you think you left a window open somewhere. The BIG downside is that they are noisy at the low setting and deafening on medium and high. My personal cheap favourite are Hiper's wired through an MFC-1 plus.

if you want to go for a more quiet fan id recommend the Noctua NF-P12. very quiet even at its highest speed setting, but it doesnt have the same airflow as the yate-loons.
you just gotta find the right balance for noise vs airflow for you

To be honest I find the Antec fans too noisy and dont shift much air, hence the consideration of upgrading. I dont want to use a fan controller but still able to use the controller at the rear of the P182 if pos, but if this is a no no then I will get an MFC1 plus

Mr x plosion I will await your results and findings on the 2 fans, as I am leaning towrads the yates but the sharkoons do get good reviews.

I have just finished building my rig into a Coolermaster CM690.

This is what I get now with Yate Loons. 1 Front, 1 Back, 1 Top, 1 Bottom, 1 CPU Cooler ([email protected]), 1 Thermalright GFX Cooler.

All of them on medium and left sat for 45 mins on idle with an ambient temp of 22c. The pc is also sat next to a radiator and its on.

I wasn't a fan (hehehe) of the Tri-cools that came with my P180, and I have since replaced them with Noctuas, 1 front, 1 back, 1 on Katana, 1 on Accelero.

Works a treat and my pc is inaudible from the bed, which is all I need :)

The YL D12SL's are great, sound relatively similar to the Tri-Cools @ Low but if you 7v mod them they are really really quiet. They come with both a 4-pin molex and 3-pin motherboard header built into the same wiring loom so you can use a fan controller or the BIOS/software. You can buy 2 of them for a tenner delivered, absolute bargain IMO.

Of course you can, they're dead easy to change.

Word of warning though, the top fan is held in on one side by metal clips that need fans with open corners that the Yate Loons are not, so you'll have to saw away part of the frame to make it fit.

Thanks skyboat

Now where did I put that hacksaw
