Need a little advice with settings or maybe you could suggest something else I need to buy, finished my build yesterday and the only thing im still stuck with is slowing down my fans. Ive fit 4 x Apache there set up in a P182 antec case, 1 x intake at front, 1 exhaust on the top and 2 in a push/pull set up on a H50 cooler.

I purchased a Akasa AK-CB002 PWM Fan Splitter Cable from Oc thinking it would enable me to contol the 3 fans at the top of the case via the mobo cpu fan, so ramping up as and when needed under the mobo control. But as it is i can tell for sure its not doing this the cpu fan setting is showing as 1400rpm constant. I did notice that only one of the 3 fan connectors seemed to have 4 pins the other two 2 were missing one of the centre pins. The forth fan is plugged directly into the mobo on system fan 2.

Having checked my mobo (gigabyte GA-EX58) settings i have cpu smart fan [Enabled] and cpu smart fan mode [Auto] with the other options being voltage and PWM. I have tried PWM 50% i think it was but really dont understand that setting .

After playing games all night last night the cpu never went above 55c spending most of its time at 38-45c even when gaming.

Hi mate,

PWM function is strange with the Gigabyte EX58 mobos.

I have 2 of these boards, and on one of the boards PWM control works fine from F5 BIOS onwards, but on my 2nd UD5, the only BIOS that I have tested where PWM worked was F9e, any other BIOS I tried doesn't allow PWM to work for some strange reason.

So I suggest that you try flashing your BIOS to F9e and see if it works after that.

The voltage method in the BIOS works on both boards with any BIOS I tried, but using this setting caused the fans to speed up and slow down constantly, it wasn't like they were spinning faster as the CPU load increased, even at idle, they would speed up and slow down continuously.

I'd definitely say give F9e BIOS a try, as this sorted the issue on my board that has PWM issues.

Davy if i flash the BIOS and that works do I just then set to PWN in the BIOS and thats it ? It will work or would I have to do anything else are there thresholds to set etc, using software or inside the BIOS at all.

Before now i just set the old tri cool fans on low and hey presto was easy he he.
