Pretty much as the title says.

I'm looking for a couple of 120mm fans (one intake, one exhaust) that are nice and quite, not overly fussed if they're not the best pushers.
The lian li fans that come with the PC-7B are quiet-ish but make an audible tone over everything else which is quite annoying.

Also, I regret getting the Zalman CNPS9700, doesn't seem to be doing as good a job as it should :( Looking for something to replace it! (shame I can't replace the fan on it really, it's bloomin' loud :p)

And finally, the stock cooler on my 8800gt BFG is louder than a jet under load, I'm looking for something to keep the noise and temperatures down!

Cheers chaps :D

For fans get a yate loon. You're lucky you can buy them in OCUK now, I had to get mine off the bay from america.

OcUK sell Yate Loons now?! :o

I'm so out of touch. Deffinatly get the Yate's, especially now they're easily sourced.

Looking at the Yates, they don't seem to be as quiet as others. 28dB as the lowest noise level seems a bit much to me :s

Just waiting for the money to come in and I'll grab a couple of Yates, TT and the Tt GPU cooler ;)

Still set on the Yates and Tt, but looking at the Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev. 2, people are reporting similar temperature drops to the Thermalright jobby. Is the extra £20 really worth it for the Thermalright?

Nope ......end of

Couple of notes that may help in the final pickings..........

You may want to get another fan for the TT, I found the stock Tuniq fan a little whiney. NOT loud at all, don't misunderstand, but on full throttle there was a definite motor whine along with the unavoidable noise of rushing air. Motor whine tends to be accentuated in a big HSF too. I replaced it with a Yate H[1], and it's much better, having just the teeniest hint of whine amid a fair old gale of air at full chat. It also cools a little better than the stock.

To an extent, "whoosh" varies more or less directly with CFM[2], in that you just cannot shift a pile of air fast without making noise...after all sound is just compression waves in the air. However, when it comes to noise annoyance and ear fatigue, the white(ish) noise of moving air is not too bad at all. Far far worse is the whine of motors. One whining motor will annoy your ear, half a dozen, especially as they age and develop their own quirks of speed and stability, will drive you clinically insane in about 2 hours in an otherwise quiet room. There have been a few studies suggesting the potential for permenant hearing damage from prolonged exposure to relatively quite, single frequency sounds including PC fans. Certainly your ear WILL tune out the frequency of the fans (as all your senses do....clear the pervading background to get at what they need to know), and you will end up with the aural equivalent of seeing a blue spot after looking at a red light (yes it does happen.....never been exposed to music all day and when alone in a silent bedroom that night, swear you can "hear" music?).

Oh dear, I have rambled a bit haven't I.

Shoulda just said, buy a boxload of Yate-H's and a fan controller ;)

[1] I think they go L M and H for low med and high, shifting air and making noise accordingly.

[2]fan design is a modulating factor of course in terms of relative noise between models, and there are tricks that can severely reduce noise.....you wont see them in PC's mind, I'm thinking of things like jet engine supressors where you surround the really hot really fast air with some colder air at an intermediate speed which deadens noise for several long and boring reasons, but in general more CFM = more dB

A bit of advice for fitting TT, when you screw the fan controller to the back of your PC the control knob pulls off, so then you can fit through your expansion gap.

Also dont rev the fan, used to have mine set about 1/2 to 3/4 speed.

Any problems and ask away ;)

If you can find one, get the Thermalright HR-03 Cooler Rev A and not the GT version.

You can pick them up for £20 (same as the Accelero) and they are extremelly good coolers. Keeps my 8800GT on 33c Idle and 47c Load with a Xilence 80mm PWM fan strapped to it. However, you will need at least the length of 2 slots if your fitting the cooler under the card. These can also be fitted to hang over the card.

Email in trust if you want pointing in the right direction for one of them.
