120mm Noise ...

So for a long time, i was using a case which came with a 2 way splitter for the front and rear 120mm fans, in which i basically had very quiet chassis fans. Recently i changed cases, and didnt use the splitter this time, so i plugged the 120mm fans in (1 on the motherboards 4 pin chassis fan bit, and the other on a 3 pin), and while the front fan is quiet like on the previous case, the rear fan goes full whack and is pretty damn noisy.

From what ive read, this is normal, the motherboard doesnt slow the fans down, they just go full whack, and hence why im now hearing the noise level this high. I have 2 of these -

The rear 1 in the case runs at full whack and is quite noisy. Ive seen things like voltage reducers that would slow it down, but are there fans to buy that dont full at such high RPM's by design ? Would rather have a fan thats max RPM is slower than this to keep noise levels down without the need for any further wires/adapters etc. Any recommendations ? Anyone else had this in the past ?

It's quite surprising how noisy 1500rpm led fans can be isn't it. The fans tend to be made of a material that bends and badly vibrates under stress. Seeing as one fan is fine I would recommend powering both fans off the single motherboard header by using a single adapter. It should be perfectly fine to run two of these on a header. Failing that you could look at switching the fans around so that the rear is mobo controlled and look at reducing the speed of the other fan by use of a controller which'll be easier to hide at the front bottom of your case. Zalman do a little adjustable fan controller for a few quid called the Fan Mate 2. You could add a resistor to the fan wires yourself but working out which one can be tricky and depends on the current rating of the fan.

If you want to buy new fans go for non led and less than 1000rpm.

I've got my eye on Enermax tb silence (900 rpm) and intend to mod with LEDs myself. The Apache fans (600-1300 rpm) are also quite good and you can hook multiples of them to a single PWM controlled header with the special splitter.
