Yes, boring perhaps ! The fan on my 8 year old Gelid Tranquillo has got very noisy and needs replacement.

Any recommendations for a new quiet replacement fan ? Preferably not uber-expensive, but given how long they last maybe that isn't too much of an issue. Thanks

It is cooling an AMD FX8350 - the Noctua below looks like a decent choice ?

Thanks for the reply. I'll order the Noctua and see how that goes. If I'm not happy with that I'll get the 2-pack of Phanteks above.

Only potential problem with Noctua you ordered is it's only 1300rpm max while your original fan was 1500rpm and PH-F120MP is 1800rpm. That and of course not PWM control and a PWM control fan works fine on variable voltage, but a variable voltage fan always runs at full speed on PWM. I think your stock cooler fan is variable voltage (3-pin). ;)

Finally got the Noctua fitted today so thought I'd report back. It is easily up to the task. I ran the CPU fully loaded on 8 threads (4.1GHz) for 10 mins and the fan was running just over 1,100 rpm and the temps were well under control, and it is quiet. Well impressed considering this CPU isn't known to be cool running! Summer will be another test, but in any case it is rarely fully loaded like that, so it will be just fine.
