My mate is about to upgrade to a new PC, as in the full works, inc. monitor, KB, mouse, software etc and he has been to the place of the purple shirts and is looking at their HP Pavilion HPE h8 1170uk system which retails at £1150,he was going to upgrade the monitor included in the package which adds another £100 to it, bringing it to £1250 as his final budget . (They should be shot!)

His primary use is for gaming, BF3 to be precise, with normal browsing obviously and yes I have said throwing an extra £100 or so at the i7 is pointless for him, he is pretty adamant that he wants one for "future proofing", he doesn't want to know about OC'ing either as he is pretty much a switch it on and use it guy. I told him one of the first things you guys on here will say is "he doesn't need an i7" but he is sticking to it.

I have copied and pasted the spec below (pretty basic stuff tbh) but for info he also
definitely wants the blu-ray player, as well as a 23" monitor and the i7
He is limited on the case height too,he reckons he has about 15" in height to play with.
When I questioned the GPU, he told me that the GPU isn't an integrated one per se, more of one that is only made for pre built systems, however, I am sure that the exact same card is sitting in my lads De** 17" laptop at home.

Sorry for the long post but I am trying to provide as much info as possible ;)
Could you also spec an alternative CPU, with maybe spending the extra cash on a different upgrade.

Need to confirm the space for the case, he said approx 15", but the spec you listed is more.

edit:

spec with no case listed but money left in the budget.

only a 1tb drive, but with the change from 2600K to 2500K i'd get the crucial m4 ssd.

Thanks for the reply, just looked at the price difference between the 2500 and the 2500k...about £12, because he has no interest in OC, not really worth saving the £12 just on the CPU, ...but coupled with a saving on a non OC'ing mobo also, is there an alternative mobo you could recommend ?

To clarify, as he won't be OC'ing, does he need a z68 board.

Cheers.
