Help!

Over the last few weeks my internet connection has suddenly stop to a crawl.
According to my isp (NTL) there is nothing wrong with my connection (10MB) or the line.

I was told "its my computer". Nasty!

The problem i seems to get is whenever a page is trying to load i see that transferring from 127.0.0.1 on the taskbar. This is follow by a blank page and the "done" on the taskbar again.

I have uninstall my nvidia drivers and re-install the new ones 6.86. This 44Mb update downloaded at 1100kb/per sec so no issues with speed.

But i still get a lagg before and after a page tries to load up.

Again more trasferring data from 127.0.0.1. (i know its home...)

Whats up doc!

I would try something like spybot, to see if your machine has been infected by spyware/hijackers, etc.

Check your proxy settings in IE.

As scope says, it's possible that something has installed itself and is making IE proxy through it (collecting passwords etc)

Also check your host files, some virii put that ip to stop you accessing certain websites. They are in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc if you're using windows xp.

well i have tried it all. No avg or zonealarm.

Runed spybot and now am surfing from my laptop. I can only think is either my nvidia drivers or win xp.

or my 15 meter ethernet cat5e cable.

Thanks for the tips, apreciated.

Did you do this bit? 127.0.0.1 is your own PC. Often viruses polute your host file with dodgy "look on your own PC" instead of looking in the correct place.

A "hosts" file is use for DNS lookups before you go onto the internet. The only address you normally find in there is one line - 127.0.0.1 localhost

Goto start>run then type in CMD, in the black command box then type ping bbc.net.uk and see what address it goes to, if it is 127.0.0.1 then it is probably due to your host file.
