1280x1024, any good for gaming?

Well all i can afford is a monitor that supports this max for when i get my new computer, but is this any good at all? i current play at 1024x768 will i see a big improvement in picture?

You'll lose some field-of vision and some games don't like it (namely the BF-series), but chances are it'll be better than what you've got (15" TFT? Old CRT?). Might want to consider a 19" widescreen, they're also pretty cheap.
 
I'm not completely up to speed on smaller monitors (Dell 3007WFP/2001FP owner), but my brother's 19" widescreen Hanns-G holds up suprisingly well for such a cheap screen (was about £130 I think). Baddass should come and sort you out if all else fails!
