hey guys.

ok so basically my problem is that I purchesed another 6GB of ram for my i7 rig.

this is the first build i have done, so im no expert. i built it may/june last year and it been running like a dream since then.

i saw they dropped the price of the ram i had, and decided to buy another 6gb to put in as i have a big 3D project coming up.

this was about a month back maybe longer, and when i tried to install the ram it blue screens. just as it starts windows, then sometime its lets windows start and then bluescreens.

iv been away on jobs so have not had time to properly test it. and just wanted some advice from you guys.

the ram is

OCZ Gold 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 Low-Voltage Triple Channel (OCZ3G1333LV6GK)

both 6gb sest are the same.

motherboard is gigabyte UD5

CPU i7 920, not overclocked

has anyone else had problems with putting 12gb into the board and if anyone has any advice that would be great.

cheers in advance

What qpi voltage and what ram voltage? Assuming you've set the label voltage for the ram, a couple of notches of qpi above stock will probably solve your problem. Shame you're at stock speeds if doing 3D work.

Otherwise blue screens could mean faulty ram, but definitely sort out the voltages first.

hey thanks for the replies.

il check those threads soon. i was advised to change the voltage and time to the correct ones on the label. dont know if i did it correctly, but it was still blue screening.

my cpu is still at stock cus it still under warrenty, and it flys anyways. for the moment im content with the speed. handles anything.

anyone else got any ideas?

I running this board with 12GB (6x2GB) of OCZ memory (OCZ3G1600LV6GK).

I had to increase my QPI/Vtt voltage to 1.295v to get stable at 4.0Ghz.

What speed are you running the memory at?

I found That I had to drop system memory multiplier from 8 to 6 when o/c at 4.0Ghz to be stable

Did you load optimized default settings in the bios with the 12 GB installed to reset all the memory settings?

cheers again for the replies.

I'm going have another go at it when i get back from london. I'm a novice with stuff like this. so im scared when changing setting in the bios. im just hoping if something is faulty its the ram and not one of my slots on the mother board. :S
