Hello

Just received
HyperX Genesis 12 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 CL9 DIMM Memory Kit (3 x 4 GB) - XMP Ready

And installed easily enough. No probs. however, I read someone who reviewed these that

"no matter how much ram you have windows ***always*** creates virtual memory. some programs (games a lot of the time demand 1.5GB of virtual memory, for example) will simply refuse to load - in spite of the fact that you have enough system memory already!"""

He goes on etc that you need to disable virtual ram and run RAMdisk. Etc. (Amongst other things)

Is this all necessary? As I've just put it in and it works. Or maybe I won't get the benefit from the 12 gigs or something ? Everything reads and says 12 gigs ok. In certain utilities etc/task manager also.

Windows 7 64 bit.

I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it - there is no exact science on this one, but you will gain very little by spending time playing with it or messing around with RAMdisks.

It is true that some programs and indeed Windows always does some paging (including even if the pagefile is disabled iirc), but either leave it set to let Windows Manage or manually set it to something like 6Gb (both minimum and maximum to the same amount) and forget about it.

Ignore any recommendations about 1.5x installed RAM, as they didn't make sense originally and certainly don't now - if you have more RAM, why would you need more swap.

Ok thank for the reply.

Adding my existing chip (2gig) to these 3x4 gigs in slot one (a2) gives triple Chanel according to the MOBO manual, so was expecting 14 gigs however only got 8 gigs. Maybe the 2 gig takes priority and lowered the other sticks to 2 gig also?

Thanks. :)

I got 32gb of ram with my new PC from my old 12gb i7 specifically to play with running games from a ramdisk.

I don't really notice a difference over running from SSD. Loads are a bit quicker but the hassle of moving the game to ramdisk makes up for it.

Just leave it system managed, turning it off does upset some games etc.

Hey, the only game I've found that worked better with increasing page file size was last light.

Can't explain why, could be that I only have 6 gb of ddr 3 triple channel. Otherwise didn't have a clue.
