Hi, so I want to power some 12v LEDs (WS2811 pixel lights) outdoors in a loop round the outside of my patio, the total distance will be about 50 meters but I can power them from both ends of the loop but I will still have 25 meters of cable where the voltage can drop. I'm only actually going to have 40 LEDS so I'm guessing the biggest voltage drop factor will be the resistance of the cable.
With this in mind can you recommend a suitable 3 core cable for the job.

Cheers

I'm very much a noob when it comes to electrics but from my understanding if you use standard outdoor 1.5mm cable you'd be losing less than 1v over the 50m if you're drawing just over 1amp or again 1v ish drop over 25m if drawing 2.5amps or 30 watts so should be ok?

what wattage are the LED's?

Erm, I am not sure which lights you are talking about, but the info I have is they are 0.3W each. That means you have a total of 12W. The ones I can see are 5V, but you say 12V, either way, assuming the worst case, that's 2A. That means that any table lamp cable will do. You can get 0.5mm2 three core (stranded) that will take 3A or 0.75mm2 will take 6A. Black cable is most suitable for outdoors.

You may well be fine with 0.5mm for the current handling on a short distance but the OP was asking about voltage drop which will be very significant at 12v over 25m in such small cable, i reckon about 45% rendering it useless hence why i reckon you'd want at least 1.5mm to not cause issues as that should only drop 5% at 1.25amp load.

That's what i'd go for :)
