Hi there,

In the coming weeks I shall be upgrading from my current Dell Inspiron 630M. 14.1" (1280x800), P4 1.73GHz Dothan 2MB, 1GB 533 DDR2, 80GB, Onboard GPU etc.

I need a replacement but not really sure whats hot and whats not :p

Ideally, I would like another 14.1" again but can go for a 13.1" at the same res. Dont like 15"+, find them too big.

Must have a C2D (2GHz+) quicker the better ;), 2GB+, 120GB+, HDMI output, DVD-RW. Not bothered about GPU, doesn't have to be anything fancy!

Budget, anything really upto £900 - £1000ish.

Thanks :)

Ive just done a quick spec on a XPS 1330.

T9500 (2.5GHz, 800MHz, 6MB) :D / Vista Home Prem / 4GB 667MHz, 13.3" (300nits / 1280x800) / 320GB 5400rpm / 128MB 8400M GS / WIFI etc. £1199

Had a couple of extra's thrown in that I couldn't change including bluetooth and a finger print reader :p I dont know if it has HDMI though.

I have found a HP DV2899EA Artist Edition. I remember seeing one of these on the high street, thought it looked quite smart and different!

Similar spec to the Dell. It has a T9300 (2.5GHz) / Vista Home Prem / 4GB / 320GB / 14.1" (1280x800) / 128MB 8400M GS / WIFI / HDMI. All for £800.

Seems a bargin to me!

A little confused after seeing the CPU model numbers.

Checked Intel's site. The T9500 is 2.6GHz 6MB. The T9300 is 2.5GHz 6MB.

Dell spec said T9500 but rated it at 2.5GHz

my friend has an M1330 and it does have both hdmi and vga outputs on it

not sur ewhats going off with the cpu specs though lol

yep it has a hdmi socket. i've had one for almost a year now and i find it brilliant and i'd definately recommend it. have a look at the dell outlet store, it has some excellent deals. there are also some websites that have deal codes especially for dell which are pretty good.

Have a look for a Samsung X22. I bought one a few months back and cant recomend it enough for the price. I paid £599 for it about 5 months ago and its now under £520. Personally i think it looks miles better than the dells everyone seems to have these days and it oozes quality! :D

That is a decent spec for the money. Cheapest Ive seen anyway. I'l take a look to see if I can get a faster CPU in there...

Yeah when i bought it i shopped around and couldnt come close to that spec for the money i paid. Build quality is very good and it feels sturdy enough for me not to worry about lugging it around uni with me all day. I diddnt want a high powered gaming laptop but something small enough for me to carry about and use for work/surfing but be able to mess about with the odd RTS to pass time and this was perfect.

Only small niggle was that it does not come with vista x64 and shipped with vista x32 but i had a bunch of licences for x64 Ultimate so it was not an issue for me.

Not really bothered about Vista to be honest. Would prefer XP :p

Im not after a gaming laptop. Just something thats quite small, hate huge laptops and is quick. Will play FM '09 a lot better than my current laptop and with a bit of luck, might get somewhere on the game.

how about N-series Asus.. a fancy netbook (half your budget)

just an idea :)

After a laptop for DJing, that Samsung seems well specced for the dosh. love the Aesthetics of the artist editions though, not that any one could appreciate them in the dark:p
