13" laptop that can do dual screen output to external monitors

yeah my current laptop does have a vga & hdmi connection. I suspect I would be able to do a dual screen setup on it. However I haven't actually tried it.

I'd really like 2 digital connections for long term dual screen setup - because I've got a gaming rig that uses 250W of power which I'd like to cut down to a more energy efficient level. A laptop uses something like 20W which is better.

Your system is unlikely to be drawing 250w while browsing here and your laptop won't be drawing 20w while gaming unless it's a craptastic ULV playing Minesweeper. There is a reason laptops usually come with 65-90w PSUs :D

I've actually measured it myself using an current meter (plug in). It's around 150W idle, 200W on boot when all hard drives are going.

Maybe I need to look at my internal configuration though. i have a card that's both noisy and overkill with power consumption.

I don't think my card is "reference design". But this is the closest thing I can find to my actual card.

ATI Radeon HD 4870 Reference Design: 58 W idle, 166 W loaded source

Maybe I'll try my luck by doing a slight upgrade on my gfx card and one that is modern and energy efficient too.

E.g. gtx560 is better in both performance and energy requirement

performance gtx560 vs hd4870

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti Reference Design 17 W (idle draw) 199 W (loaded)
