Time for a upgrade from my trusty laptop to a PC box.

Got £1300 and only think i know is i dont want Xfire/SLi and i would like a dam good graphics card in it. Rest is up in the air.

Only used for wow, eve, watching movies and photoshop work - but nothing major in photoshop.

What would you say is a good spec for a gaming 80% 20% PS/web browser rig?

Seen Daaaveee's post and that looks good too, i like paying that little extra for decent hardware, it seems to last longer and be mroe stable.

So, what you you buy - Just the box, got screen, mouse/keyboard sorted.

wait for others to confirm its a good build :P

The above is good but i would go for a Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB HD you also forgot a cooler so a Titan Fenrir would be fine amongst the spec.(i agree with the stuff above though at least along those lines....5870 is ideal and an i7 cpu at your budget.)

Edit: Nevermind i am going blind about the cooler but the HD change would make it a more solid pc i think. :)

Thank you for the input, looks good. will price it up over here and see wha it comes to.

would coarsir ram be better?

Good spec Alekandrs. Motherboard is a good choice, nice friendly bios to overclock on, i use the p6t deluxe v2 which is virtually identical to the p6td deluxe, top notch vid card as well.

if its only for wow and eve like you say and you would rather save some money then.
you dont need i7 if you dont want crossfire/sli

i5 is overkill for games and will be overkill for along time to come , i7 is more for sli/crossfire and video encoding.

you dont need a h50 cooler if you arent overclocking and you never said you were.

5870 is more than overkill for wow and eve ,even a 5770 will let you run eve and wow at max settings.

you could save your self 300 quid and still have an awesome rig for gaming

I agree.

How about save some money and get an SSD with the cash saved? SSD's are great for photoshop, even if it just loads instantly lol!

Oh forgot to add an OS, would recomend Win7 64Bit OEM if you need one. And if you are overclocking the Corsair H50 Watercooler :D

Nice specs.

Im not interested in overclocking at all to be honest. I would also want to keep the same machine for about 2 years, would the i5 be upto running games and PS 14 [guess] in 2 years time or would spending a little extra on the i7 be a fair option?

cheers all!

The i5 would definitely be enough I reckon, considering the money saved you can get a DX11 gfx card and an SSD hard drive as has been suggested, you're onto a winner

yea the i5 will be enough but get the i5 750 it has lower clocks than the other i5 models but its the fastest one of them all , the other i5 range are proper budget cpus with onboard graphics built into the cpu core

You have to overclock at least a mild amount, it is so easy to do and you can get 30% free performance with little to no effort!

i5 750 with an overclock on matches the performance in games of a i7, same is true of the i3 but due to being a dual core in 2 years time it will probably be lagging slightly.

i7 is still only a quad core, but with hyperthreading and triple channel memory.

i5 is more than enough, most of the press publications agree that anything more powerful is wasted on games.
