Something's thats been worrying me.
I plan on getting an E6550 when they come out at the end of July. Lets say I wanted to overclock to 3.6. What fsb will I need to run it at? Sorry I am a noob.

It all depends on the multiplier, although I'm not sure what this will be for the E6550. However, lets say it's X9. So, 3600MHz divided by 9 = 400FSB.

Think its 7x for 2.33Ghz. So you'd need about 514-515MHz thereabouts for 3.6Ghz
Ouch. Not many boards can do those sort of fsb's. I think ill stick to the E6420.

Yeah unfortunately higher default FSB = much more FSB needed and usually a much lower multiplier than cpus of the same speed but lower FSB, great for stock, not so good for overclocking since you prolly gotta pay a bit more coin for a mobo that clocks that well, along with other stuff like RAM if you want to take full advantage of the FSB.

Dear gods.. the voltage.. omg. Hopefully this is a prelude to a better stepping chip on the higher multi ones. Looks like 4Ghz on a normal oc soon :D.

i have the qx6850 quad core this is one of the yet to be released CPU's by intel and it has a 1333 FSB, the multiplier is set to 9 as standard and 1.2volts on air it overclocks stable at 3.72ghz im sure i can get a little more from this but dont really know what im doing.

ive seen 4ghz but it will not boot into windows.

But seriously... have you tried upping the volts to get it to 4Ghz ? What does TAT say about your temps ? Sound like a nice chip.
