I heard there is some kind of bandwidth limit on AMD sockets limiting RAM to 1333MHz. Can someone explain the imlications of this? Ie. can you run your RAM at 1600MHz (i know you should downclock) but still be limited to 1333MHz? What would appear in CPU-Z etc?

I dont really know how it works!

i think its a JEDEC (some sort of ram standard) which sets the standards for memory. All the AM3 will run with upto 1333Mhz DDR3, beyond this its overclocking i guess.

i'm running an unlocked sempron 140 in my spare rig atm overclocked to 3.2 and my ram is running in the 1500's so there is no limit you just have to overclock it :)

Oh good. I overclocked to 1600MHz and got it going at CL7, but thought i was silently being limited and the software wasn't telling me!

eh? some motherboards let you do 1600mhz in teh bios on a divider...... i know my ud3h does im not overclocking my cpu either

I thought that the limit was at how fast the cpu can access the RAM so even though it is running at a higher frequency it would still only be used at 1333mhz so without overclocking then you wouldn't gain anything.

foxconn a7da-s 3.0 here, a recent bios update allows me to run 1600mhz natively (although it overvolts the RAM by default at this speed with no way to un-overvolt them)
