Now then :)

just thought I'd start this as I'm sure it has to be a popular problem

I'm using my 42" full HD LG TV as my monitor in the living room
my eyes are around 3 meters away from the screen and I find it puts a lot of strain on them.

who else is using this sort of setup and how far away are are you sitting?

I'm thinking of getting a smaller monitor and putting the system in the back room and running higher resolutions at a desk, is this worth shelling out for a decent monitor?

Depends on what your going to be using it for, i myself cannot play any types of games on anything bigger than a 24" causes me to move my eyes/head too much :D and i couldnt even imagine playing on a 42".

You are lucky, I would love to be able to get my PC to display 1360 x 768, it just wont.
The pc says it is set to that res but the TV normally says 1024 x 768 :(
(I have had it working in the past but that wasnt on windows 7)

is 1360x768 the native res of the display? You need to run at native res to get the sharpest picture. At 3 metres I have 42inch TV and with my glasses on, I can read text very easily, it's pretty much the same as a laptop sat on my lap. Are your eye in good condition?
