With all the problems with 1155 Asus Motherboards im tempted to to stick with 1366 with a i7 950.

I just think 1155 chipset is problematic and that 1366 would be a safer option, would 1366 still be obviously good for gaming?

Cant see the problem as the 950 is an excellent chip but would just like other opinions. :)

Thanks

if you have 1366, theres no reason at all to change to 1155 purely for gaming. It would be more of a downgrade, if anything.

Why could you possibly need to upgrade from a i7 950? Have you overclocked you 950? SSD will help it feel snappier and quicker. I think it'd be great for quite some time yet!

Thats the only issue with 1366 - it's due to be replaced by the end of the year. Having said that, liek Orcvader said, a 1366 system will be good for a long time.

He's on a 775 mobo (looking at sig). I guess his question is which platform to upgrade to.

well judging by his post count, he has access to the MM, so 1366 would be the best upgrade (cheaper and easier to get hold of)

No No guys sorry ive not explained this properly. Ive not upgraded yet! im still using my old rig here! Q9550 @3.4 GHz socket 775!

Just would like to know, should i go for 1366 to be safe. Or go for 1155 mayby a gigabyte motherboard or something as ive heard there good?

Sorry about confusing you all! :)

Yes, get the 2500K with a gigabyte motherboard, and clock it to 4.2ghz+! Will be a great jump in performance from your Q9550 :).

Thanks very much for the help guys, im very indecisive when it comes to choosing, i shouldnt stress over it really.

Looking at these boards. Budjet for a board is £200 so what do you think of these.

Is the UD5 worth the extra £70? or would i fine with the UD4?

Was thinking of an I7 2600K really like the look of that chip, top that off with some Corsair vengence 1600 MHz.

I can post a full spec if need me to?

Hi Yes mainly for gaming, ect. I have all the peripherals already.

Budjet is origionaly £1500 but that was with a new PSU. I should be able to keep my Enermax Galaxy 1000W no problem though as well as the 1200 case, so its not a waste.

I did do a spec about a week ago but with an Asus board. There not too good from what i hear so heres a revised one with a gigabyte motherboard.

Really like the look of those SSD drives as well, and the 2600K.

Oh and already have an OS 7 64 Bit

Let me know what you think

Thanks ;)

For gaming there's no point in the 2600K. Hyperthreading is useless unless you're doing encoding. Just get the 2500K. Swap out the WD HDD with a Samsung F3 too, it's cheaper but still performs very well.

EDIT: If you're up to it, you can also buy a 6950 instead and flash it to a 6970.

Yeah was thinking about the 6950 flash dont think im up for it though the 6970 will do.

What about the motherboard by the way? P67A-UD4 or P67A-UD5?

Thanks

LGA1366 never really made much sense to the majority of users.

i disagree. i've never seen anyone complaining that 1366 made no sense. Perhaps now that 1155 is out, it might seem like a better choice, but it certainly does not make 1366 senseless to buy....
