1366 x 768 any point new gpu

is there any point spending a wad of cash on new gpu when max res is 1366 x 768, tell u y m8 of mine asked me 2day, he like a lot of ppl i know play pc games through their lcd tv, but max res is 1366 x 768, he dont mind spending upto £200, but i thought it pretty pointless at that res, but i could be wrong

any ideas
