13700kf idle power draw

I have an issue with my 13700kf at idle. It sits idle at 30+watts while dropping to 800-1500mhz at under 900mv. That is fairly high personally as my 10700k at idle was pulling 10-12 watts. Anyone know what could be doing this?

Have you checked it is actually idle i.e. Windows isn't doing updates stuff in the background, etc. ?

Something not right there though the 13700KF should sit at sub 10 watt idle easy - my 14700K is sitting at between 4W and 22W with light desktop use.

It depends if this is a setting in the BIOS that has been changed or disabled, or a software problem. Some software can prevent deeper sleep states.

Yeah a couple friends have the 14700k and the 13900k and both use less the 15 watts at idle. i have afterburner, hwinfo, rtss and roccat swarm open as that's needed but surely it won't cause idle issues? However disabling these does nothing for idle power

bios has sleep state c6 ebabled and eist to allow lower voltage and core speed at idle. as stated above it does idle but at higher wattage

My i5-10400f sits about 7w idle with similar things open so you can rule them out

any mysterious background programs could be worth running some malware programs

Try going to your power plan and check the minimum cpu power state in Windows. Sometimes this can get set at a higher percentage. Set it to 5%, if not already.

What are you using to measure the power draw? If software, then which? Or are you using one of those plug meters that measures the power at the mains socket?

I have managed to get this down to 20 watts with all apps still running in the background. Apps running are: process lasso, roccat swarm, openrgb, rtss, afterburner, rainmeter and hwinfo.

I am using a wall socket meter that is reading within 1-2 watts of the corsair hx1000i readout on HWiNFO

i have noticed with throttlestop that i never enter c2 or higher c states. even with no programs running at startup i am stuck at c0 while cpu is dropping to 800mhz and voltage is dropping to under 1v at idle as it is supposed to. C states are set to c7 in the bios as is speedshift also the same in throttlestop. i currently sit around 25-30 watts on the desktop with speedshift set to 80. Speedshift set to 128 drops to 20-25 watts, yet no c states above c0. anyone know what could be causing this?
