Currently running stable at 3600 C16 DDR4. Yet wondering if Intel is hiding something here ?

As the processors move through generations we see increasing claims of faster DDR5 support yet DDR4 support mostly stays the same ??. Its hard to imagine this without corresponding DD4 speed increases as driven by the same on chip controller circuitry !

Thoughts and real world observations ?

3200 is the highest jedec speed (@1.2v) so ddr4 support will probably never progress. (ddr5) 4800, 5200 and 5600 are all available with jedec timings @ 1.1v.

To throw the cat among the pigeons..... Intel Spec states.

12900KS - 76.8 GB/s, 3200Mhz DDR4
13900KF/14900KF - 89.6 GB/s, 3200Mhz DDR4 ??

Hence I don't see why they haven't upped the 'supported' DDR4 speeds in line with DDR5. No wonder my 12900 and now 13900 are very happy with 3600Mhz DDR4. Is this simply a marketing ploy to promote DDR5 ?

No. It is exactly what I said. Intel only support JEDEC officially (standard timings and 1.1v DDR5/1.2v DDR4) and above 3200 you need to use XMP.

If there was a revised DDR4 standard, Intel may have followed it, but I doubt we'll ever get one at this point.

Yeah I get ya but wonder if the ddr4 sweet spot for the i9 processors is now above 3600Mhz....
