Hi there

Well basically in 14hrs time VAT goes upto 20%, this will effect any orders you place so if your considering placing an order today is the day to do so in order to save money.

kinda crap ain`t it.... darn government.... if they decreased the vat. people would buy more....

Erm no.

All the VAT increase will do will make people buy things today instead of tomorrow. Someone won't not buy a computer/car/coffee because of the VAT rise. They might buy it sooner to avoid the rise, but they're still buying it.

Heck I didn't even notice when VAT went down!

Me either, I've no idea about economics but I'd have thought they would have been better putting the vat up instead of putting it down, but what do I know!

people will wait to buy things will the price does down to offset the VAT raise. especially on bigger purchases

Unlikely. VAT will not be reduced, and I'm surprised at the number of people I've spoken too that don't even know fuel duty is also going up tomorrow  So, if you're the average uk family then it's going to add roughly £735 to your taxes, or you loose most of the cost of a new pc

Hence the reason people have spent the past week buying as many large items as possible, and stocking up on clothing too. Aside from being $***, the reduction in sales will reduce income through taxation by more what they're cutting from councils (~2B) this year alone - read it's going to get worse this year, and even worse the following year.

So if you're thinking about a new pc do some quick math, you may even discover the odd cc payment will be cheaper than the VAT increase :-/

You obviously don't have a clue how the VAT system works. Retailers will have to pay the increased amount to the government as part of their VAT return so there's no extra profit in it. In fact, there's a huge workload repricing everything - I'm really not looking forward to returning to work tomorrow with the number of individually priced items I'll have to re-price.

What people havent mentioned here is that the 2.5% tax rise is going to have more of an effect on our personal incomes than you think: Remember it is a tax paid on money (ie your income) you've ALREADY paid tax on - but then again double taxation is nothing new!

was wondering why the price has gone up on the ocuk 6970 after the vat rise ? , elsewhere have not increased the price apart from the vat . whats going on at ocuk ? , you already had these in did you not ?
