Will be used for gaming and the usual stuff.

Dont mind overclocking.

As much RAM as possible although 2GB is OK as can upgrade the month after.

Been out the loop for while and have no idea regarding current gen mobo chipsets and which (If any) need to be avoided.

Thanks for any help.

How would this compare with an Intel dual core setup?

For the extra a Intel setup would cost, what would the "real world" benefit be?

Good posts guys, thanks.

So for the £15 difference, whats the "real world" difference going to be?

Am I wrong in thinking the LGA775 route would be more "future proof" if such a thing is possible.

Im just a little uncertain of AM2.

Go with either, you'll have to upgrade all three later anyway. You may aswell just keep the combo of three until one dies, then get a second hand of that component unless it's completely out-dated.

That's not AM3, but it will work with some of those AMD cpu's which will work on AM2 or AM3 if I'm not mistaken. That's not going to be many, just a few over the transition period.
