£1400 - no more.

Gaming + editing (so i7 will be wanted thnx)

No OS, no monitor, kb etc just the tower.

Dare I say 'as future proof as possible' easy to setup reliable etc etc...you know the score.

is this another of your 'im not buying it for a year' threads, or am i thinking of someone else?

Someone else I think. The spec is for a mate.

Thanks Stulid almost identical to what I specced him.

Forgot to mention that HDD is not needed. (SSD is)

He was thinking of getting a 480 to save a little bit, i originally chose the 570 as well as it is newer.

It was case choice that I wanted to know what ppl thought about.

Thanks again all !!

Get a cooler in there then instead of the retail heatsink with the HDD money.

ahh cool. there was someone looking for a nearly identical simply to see how far things improve in a years time, when he was planning to get a new PC.

i'll see if i can make a nice build, but i doubt it will be better than anything stulid makes

Wants to spend 1.4k on a system and not get free performance for a few option changes?

why not swap out the 570's for 480's ?

will save you £80 and would be a lot more powerful ..

or with that £80 get two off these for the 480's

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-002-GD&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=787

more powerful and quiter than the 570's now ...

SLI'd 480's get very toasty unless you have superb cooling.

I would say unless he is going down the watercooled route, do not get any 4xx series cards.

Personally, I would go for 2* 6950's *unlocked* as they scale incredibly well.

more powerful and quiter than the 570's now ...

Loads of reasons,

Less power consumption, so dont need a more expensive 1000w PSU

GTX480 sli much more powerful? - http://www.guru3d.com/article/vga-charts-spring-2011/2 - really?

more powerful and quiter than the 570's now ...

480's are pretty much exactly the same as 570's performance wise, except the 480's use up a load more power, and create more heat than the center of the sun.

personally, i'd get the 570's

the extra vram will help with future games as i think 1280mb is not enough having 2x470's it maxs the memory in a few games already with max settings and high AA, for nearly £500 off gpu i would want it to destroy anything out there and would be a lot more 'as future proof as possible'

and once the 480's are overclocked you should be able to play at high settings easier and i think one imprortant question is what res will he be using ??

with him saying he will be doing editing i would assume he would have a minimum of 1920x1200 isp monitor or even 2560x1440/1600 which the 480's would do a lot better at high res and with the geil coolers they would be quiet

LOL he now tells me that he will work on his other PC! So purely for gaming.

I tell him scrap the i7 then and go for i5 and I get:

[WU-TANG]GZA: i5 is same as i7 for gaming
notepad: what is i7 for then
notepad: video editing?
notepad: servers
[WU-TANG]GZA: only advantage over i5 is editing shizzle yea
notepad: yeah but thats video apps
[WU-TANG]GZA: encoding etc
notepad: same as games
[WU-TANG]GZA: trust me
[WU-TANG]GZA: in games
[WU-TANG]GZA: there is no difference between the two
[WU-TANG]GZA: mate i did the sdame thing
notepad: SEVEN

Send him some reviews and benchmarks of the i7 vs i5. Since it'll be purely for gaming, just use Stulid's build but maybe replace the CPU cooler for something beefier? Or just leave it as it is, and it'll save him money ;).
