Hi there. Within the next week i'm planning on buying a new PC and i'm quite torn as what to do. I'm not a complete newbie when it comes to pc's but i find it hard to keep up to date with new stuff.

I've been looking at an alienware for £1378 (specs below)
PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ i7-3820 (Four Core, 10MB Cache 3.60GHz) edit
OPERATING SYSTEM Windows 8 64bit, English edit
GRAPHICS CARD 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GTX 680 edit
MEMORY 8192MB (4x2GB) 1600MHz DDR3 Quad Channel edit
HARD DRIVE 1TB SATA 6Gb/s (7200RPM) 32MB Cache edit
OPTICAL DRIVE DVD+/-RW (Read/Write) 24x W8 edit
SOUND CARD Integrated HDA 7.1 Dolby Digital capability edit
SECURITY SOFTWARE No Security/Anti-Virus Protection edit
SERVICES AND SUPPORT 1 yr Next Day In-Home Hardware Support.

My question is can overclockers build me something better for the price. It's for pure gaming, no monitor needed or keyboard etc, just the tower.
Any help would be most grateful.

Wow fast replies, many thanks. I can spend £1400 overall including tax. Cheers for the builds, i'll start browsing through them. Also, am i wrong in thinking getting a gtx 680 is a good idea?

it's user choice, many think and will link you to threads where a cheaper amd version does same or better for less.

i use amd but would spec any as at the top end it's only a few % either way, but costs maybe a lot more for the extra % etc

so i go for the cheaper option with best bang for buck, which atm tends to be amd for gaming anyway

Have you thought of building it yourself, get even more for your money.
If this new PC is just for gaming, then a 3570k is more than adequate, unless you need hyperthreading for some reason. Video editing or rendering.

Over the years i have updated various parts but i'm not confident enough to do a whole system. I'd rather pay a bit of money to make sure it's done right.

and also the warranty better than diy as the overclock can void it, but done for you they will warranty it so quids in on both scores

pick any build and goto customer Sales and Order Enquries - 0871 200 5052

they will alter any build and add any part you want into it for you and give advice etc, build time and price or just general advice same as you get here.

if you fancy something else adding just ask, the more you ask the more custom it gets.

alienware was ok before being bought out by dell.

OC build more custom rigs than most would guess

post your findings once it arrives, total inc how you thought the whole process was etc and how long it took, price compared to etc and speed and then in use, always nice to see replies once received and used

I think you are a little confused concerning warranty.
The prebuilt system comes with a 2yr warranty. Also, you have to bear in mind the fact, you may be required to return the whole system, depending on the problem. This means no PC until it is repaired.
If you build it yourself, you have whatever warranty comes with each individual item. And overclocking a self build does not void any warranty.

unless you damaged the cpu with a bad overclock?

i was under the understanding that you overclock a cpu / m/b and ram on your own risk.

so unless it's done for you, there's no warranty for parts you damage yourself, might be wrong, wouldn't be the first or last time tbh
