Hey guys I am after a new gpu for my rig

System
Xeon 5650 @4.2
12gb 1600 ram
Gtx 780

I already have the 1440 screen 60 hz no plans on upgrading monitor

Now just had a baby so don't want to be going crazy money on a card but want a nice upgrade whats the best bang for buck

My system is fully water loop so will need to fit a block as well

Or should I buy second hand

Budget 500-600

But don't want to be spending more than I have to want ultra setting

Games I play are wow sc2 overwatch battlefield 1 etc

Cheers

I would say for you a used 980 ti at around 250 if possible or 1070 if you can grab a new one for 330 - if look around you can find some

finally if you see any ocuk deals for 1080s for 455 I would also consider that - that imo would be the best bet but only if under £470 only

I've just bought a MSI GTX 1070 Armour OC for £330 and put it into a clocked 2500K (4.5 GHz) system. I was going to upgrade the rest of the system in a couple of months time when I have more time but I've been so impressed at the performance at 1440p that I'm going to wait until my daughter needs this rig in the Autumn.

I run all games on Ultra and the only game that I have minor FPS issues with is Arme 3 - but it's such a CPU intensive game I wasn't too surprised. Off the top of my head: Doom runs over 100 FPS, GTA V 60/70 FPS, Black Ops II over 120 FPS, SHadow of Mordor over 100 FPS (may be 20 more or less - can't remember) all on Ultra with some tweaks.

If I had a better chip with a MB that didn't bottleneck the card (only 2nd gen PCIe slot) I wouldn't even consider upgrading - it's been a real surprise even with the loss of approx 10-20 FPS average that i'm losing because of my older hardware/bottlenecking.

*Edit I should add I got Gost Recon Free with the card too - so if you were planning on getting the game (or Honour) you can get a GTX 1070 for technically ~£290. Watch for Overclocker deals...

*Edit I can check BF1 later for you if you're interested?..

an RX 480 will play those games 1440p / 60 fps and it's budget friendly - the 580 (480 refresh is rumoured to be out April) - but you wouldnt want to water cool the 480 tbh.

you confuse matters by saying £500 - £600 but can't spend crazy money ? :p

Im of the opinion 1080 / 1080 Ti is for high refresh rate 1440p gaming i.e. 144hz or 4k gaming with some settings tweaked.

Yea plec if you dont mind

Just had a quick butt kicking on a BF1 multiplayer server with my son watching my FPS - it averaged at about 65 FPS with everything set on ULTRA and at 1440p. Was extremely smooth - normally play with it capped at my screen refresh rate and rarely moves below 60 so the 1080 with your chip should be more than adequate.

A used 1080 can be had for 380-420 on the bay. I matched one with my 1440p 60hz monitor and im very happy with the performance, I just max everything out.

can get a new 1080 for 470+ might wait on a deal if one pops up
keep thinking of going second hand 980ti with a block second hand 300 ish
wish i had access to mm ive been a member forever but don't post a lot read a lot should get in by time served ha
