Hey Guys,

I'm after some advice. I've just upgraded my GFX card to a 1070 but i'm still running a 1080p tn monitor and I don't feel like i'm getting the benefit of the 1070 because of it (and I've never liked the picture quality from my tn monitor)

I was thinking of going up to a 27" acer predator 1440p monitor but the price difference between the 1440 and 4k predator is roughly £30.

I know I don't have the gfx power to drive 4k, but my question is....

If I bought the 4k monitor for future proofing will the picture quality look cr@p if I run my games at 1440 on it. I know monitors like their native resolution.

I know there is a hz difference between the monitors but I can't see my graphics card driving either at over 60hz anyway.

With the pound dropping fast I was thinking buy now or never....

Thanks

I currently have the Philips 40" 4K and the 27" Asus ROG Swift PG279Q. Out of the two I'd recommend the Asus (or the Acer equivalent) to most people.

(Don't go below 40" for 4K).

Thanks guys,

I was thinking 1440 was the way to go, but with their being not much in it price wise I just wanted a little hand holding :)

I've always hated 1080p I went from a 1920 x 1200 monitor when it blew to my current and its always felt like a real step backwards, so i'm eager to upgrade now I've got a bit more gfx grunt.

You've sold me on the 1440 option, thanks again.

I'd love to go ultrwide :)

Its an extra £400 though and to be honest I don't think the 1070 would drive it that well, but if people think differently I'd consider it... I've unfortunately got my 40th next month so I might get a bit of cash to put towards it....

Hey guys,

Just wanted to say thanks for the advice before and in the end i went for ..... Acer Predator x34a :)

For anyone thinking about it just do it, its a beautiful monitor. I've only played a couple of games but my 1070 has no problem running battlefield at ultra and it looks amazing. The FOV can be a bit strange, but i guess i'll get used to that.

It shouldn't be strange on games that natively support 21:9

forgot to say, overclockers have been amazing as normal. Customer service couldn't have been more helpful and 3 packs of Haribo...get in.

No dead pixels and overclocks fine, very happy bunny.

I've only tried Battlefield 4 and MWO so far, but found battlefield gave me a bit of a fish eye feeling, have tried different fov setting's I guess I just need to play around with it a bit.
MWO is amazing though :)

I totally agree i've been trying 4k on my 50inch TV and i'm still finding that too small for some stuff sitting 6 feet away, some games don't support 4k that well. one example try reading the menus on bioshock infinite at 4k res they are so tiny even on a 50 inch screen.

I just really couldn't imagibe using a 4K monitor and after some suggetions in a thread i posted i really think 1440p or superwide is the way to go
