1440 v 1080 Upgrade advice

Currently have 25 inch iiyama XU2590S-B1 its a 1920x1080 IPS, i am what i would call a lite to medium gamer around a 2 hours a day on average running a i5 6600 matched with MSI GTX1070 Gaming X.
Considering a 27 inch upgrade but budget is an issue.

I like look of the iiyama Black Hawk G2730HSU its around £160 for 1920x1080 TN panel, but I am tempted by the 27 inch Asus PB277Q at £240, its 2560 x1440 again its a TN.

So will my 1070 be OK for 2560x1440 at very high to ultra settings and will the difference in overall image quality in games and normal use be that noticeable compared to what i currently have with my 25inch or if i picked the 27inch 1920x1080 Black Hawk.

Oh and i like to sit about 45cms/18ins from screen so is all that talk i hear about pixel density really true or just bit of scaremongering by 1440 people beating down the 1080's ?

Any advice/opinions or recommendations welcomed.
 
1440p is the sweet spot for the 1070, at 1080 60hz it was a bit overkill.

I play most games with ultra settings just fine, and high settings at 1440p would look much nicer than ultra at 1080p anyway.

That said while this would be an upgrade, I would just suggest to save a bit more and go for a 1440p high refresh monitor. I know it's twice as much but a monitor upgrade doesn't happen that often and the benefits would be massive (especially if you go G-Sync).
 
If you have a GTX 1070 then I think 1440p is a better choice than 1070p. But I would recommend prioritising frame rates over resolution. Personally I prefer to not drop below 90 average FPS. So this means I think 120Hz 1080p is better than 120Hz 1440p. I think high frame rates have a really nice effect in terms of added realism. The extra smoothness helps a lot. It depends a bit on what sort of game you like. If you play a lot of RPGs or games like Witcher 3 then maybe the higher resolution would be better for prettier / more scenic scenes. On the other hand, if you like fast-paced FPS or other action games then I think frame rates are a big priority. Since you have already invested in a 1070 I think overall it would be best to go for 1440p 120/144hz really. One final factor is to consider whether you want IPS or TN.
 
The 1070 will run 1440p without issues, 1080p is just junk in comparison, don't think twice mate, make the move. I ran 1 980ti at 1440p without issues before upgrading to 2 of them. 100% the 1070 will have no problems.
 
I have a 1070 and play at 1440p, never have any issues. It smashes anything i throw at it (CPU is a 6700 and 16GB RAM). 1440p is a great sweet spot right now, looks great and doesn't require ridiculous horsepower, don't go smaller than a 27" screen though.
 
Well ill just leave it here in case other people might have similar thoughts as the OP. I can very highly recommend the viewsonic vx3276-2k, a 1440p 32inch ips overclockable to 75hz(every sample is able to hit this). The best part of it is the fact that its dirt cheap and its extremely responsive for such an affordable monitor. I have had several monitors including gsync panels such as the Dell s2716dg and i still own a dell s2417dg. The viewsonic vx3276-2k is very difficult to beat when price is considered and it has become my daily driver.
