Any sign of 1440p @ 120hz on the horizon? I've been looking around but its a bit vague.

Its claimed that you can OC some IPS panels to around 85hz, but then others say that they drop frames.

You should do some research more on Yamakasi and overlords computers. I have had mine for 5 months running @ 120hz with no issue

+1 for the Yamakasi catleaps, make sure you buy a 2b overclockable verson though.

I've had mine for 5 months also, probably from the same batch, running 120hz here with no issues.

I was lucky enough to have no dead pixels and no backlight bleed, but it is a lottery.

Those Yamasakis have been out yonks in S. Korea, don't understand why no UK distributor is willing to take them on, apart from them being relatively unknown.

Well the ones with the 2b pcb that overclock to 120hz are in limited supply and most of them have already been sold.

The newer pcb's don't overclock but the ones sold at overlords are reversed engineered from the 2b catleaps.

I agree that samsung or some other big company should start making 1440p/120hz monitors.

I agree with Pleiades. I'm not entirely sure why mods removed my posts and AFAIK there is no PM function in the UserCP pages of these Boards so I can't ask the mod.

Regardless, Post2 of this thread was not removed and provides all the information you really need...

£500 though...

Seems dire and tricky to get hold of IPS 27inch 1440p screens for good prices, surely 60hertz on the ips panels is not so bad ?

No, it's not bad at all. But knowing there are 120hz ones tantalisingly just out of reach is kinda annoying ;)

And with import duties and VAT I reckon you're looking at £600 or more for either Yamasaki or Overlord, for which you could get the Hazro 30Wif from OCUK (still wrongly shown as a 10-bit panel on their site btw).

30" 60hz with 3 year warranty or 27" 120hz with 1 year? It's a quandary...

Yamakasi Catleap Extreme 2B: USD719 with DHP shipping included (just over 450 pounds)
Overlord Tempest X270OC Grade A: USD644 with cheapo USPS shipping (about 405 pounds)

On both 120Hz.net and OverlordForum.com we quite regularly discuss import duties and VAT. The UK is pretty ok compared to some other European destinations. The amount charged seems to vary somewhat from person to person, but I've never heard of it being over 100 quid - it's usually less.

So I wouldn't expect UK buyers would have to pay £600 all up. I reckon £500-550 is more likely, if not less.

The warranty is a consideration, however. Apart from the length of the warranty, depending on the issue the return shipping to Korea/USA may more may not be covered by the seller. In certain cases you might have to share the costs (you pay to send it back, they pay to send the new/repaired screen)

I'm just concerned about 'hidden' or 'unexpected' charges.

VAT is 20% in UK and there is IIRC 14% duty on monitors so I figured add a third to £450 = £600 (playing on the safe 'worse scenario' side).

Can anyone here confirm a recent price inclusive of everything, to UK?

Another factor of course is currency exchange rates, I've seen rather large fluctuations which makes it difficult to decide when to act. The pound looks like getting considerably weaker this year too :(

Edit: Thanks for useful links BlackOctagon!

PS How reliable is 'cheapo' delivery? Still seems a bit expensive.

I know that 120Hz.net mark their monitors as having a USD400 customs value, and so 20% VAT should be calculated on that, i.e., USD100.

Note that Overlord Computer is now totally out of stock, so if you've been on the fence, it's time to get off and either move on or wallow in despair (whatever floats your boat)
