So, the final item to update the 8 year upgrade spend is picking a 1440p monitor. This will be matching a 7600x 6750xt build.

I generally have no clue about montiors, I've owned one of the first aoc gsync 24" 1080p screens for what must be approaching 10yrs. I don't know if I want a curve, a flat screen, 27", 32".... VA, IPS.

The use will be mainly gaming, and that'll be allsorts - RPG, FPS mainly but we play whatever looks good. I guess this makes it difficult to decide VA for the blacks, contracts and immersion or IPS for the fps and overall better colours.

Does anyone have anythoughts about whether 32" is too big? i have a feeling it'll look massive on the desk. Its a decent sized desk but I still sit quite close. i did read that 27" at a more modest budget will perform better and sharper in general.

And Curved vs flat - no idea on this, have never sat infront of a curved screen. I'm not for or against curved.

Does anyone have any recommendations - I've fished out the following mainly based on basic stats and good lookings deals/reductions.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,946.92 (includes delivery: £0.00)

On size: My experience of LCD monitors has been a 22" samsung T220 which had huge bezels, I moved up to a 27" on the recommendation of a friend that 27" was "just right", and I have to agree. It's roughly a similar total size (a bit larger) as the old samsung but the bezels are a lot smaller, so the screen space is bigger. I sit with my face about 70cm from the screen and I'd say if this monitor was any larger it would be too big, so I don't think 32" is worthwhile, and I do appreciate the higher pixel density.

On monitor choices: I bought a second hand Dell S2721DGFA, which I think is basically the same or similar panel (iirc when I was researching a year ago) as the LG 27GP850P-B... don't get me wrong, it's a very nice looking screen but I wasn't utterly blown away or anything. I didn't pay anywhere near £350 though (more like half that for a mint condition barely used model) and if I had I'd likely have been disappointed - the s2721dgfa has recently been a lot cheaper new than £350 because I think it went end of line so look around a bit.

here is a pic of mine at the moment

Left is 32 inch and right is 27, maybe get an idea of the size difference. I use the 27 inch for gaming as its the msi and its an ips monitor so colors are very good but at the end of the day its down to the user. Deffo go high refresh and min 1440p imho ;)

I have the MSI Mag274QRF-QD, third one down on your list and I can not fault it, great monitor

Thanks for the input. Have ordered one of these.

Was so tempted to go for the bigger size and perceived immersion but that monitor has such good reviews and following.

Why do you game more on the 27? Is it a far more noticeable quality?

the other monitor is the acer 32 inch 1440p 144 hz monitor which developed a fault so I got a new monitor, I read the reviews on the msi and thought it sounds like a good one and it was an ips monitor which I have never had before so bought it as a replacement. Just like it much better than the acer, better colours and games look so much better.

As a side note the fault on the acer is not there any more it runs perfectly but I prefer the msi now ;)

Thanks Fizzy, I've gone for the MSI, arriving tomorrow.

It was less that £300 (on a diff site) - and it seems to have that cult following!

Hi, How has this monitor served you so far? If you look at it at odd(side) angles does it display the same like a TV?

Really happy with it so far cheers! For less that £300 feels really good value - the 1440p 27" step up obviously is super noticable but after tinkering the colours are bang on.

I have played with the settings a little, it was worth downloading the MSI app and linking the monitor via USB and DP to access the finer settings. I followed the RTINGS post calibration settings and am really happy now - faces and general skin tones in games (usually what I find the big giveaway with screens) all are natural, then some of the really colourful Fortnite DX12 situatuions and speed of play are all crisp and vivid.

I haven't looked at the screen from any angles for too long - my set-up makes it hard to do that (monitor is in a corner).
