Evening all,

I'm exploring the possibility of buying a pre-built machine that can comfortably max out games such as Company of Heroes 2, Total War Rome 2, and Battlefield 4 at 1440p (I have a Dell U2515H). I would like the machine to be as future proof as possible. Now the question is, how much is this going to cost? My preference would be under £1000, but I could possibly spend more if it is necessary.

Cheers guys :)

If you want a machine under £1000 I'd get a RX 480 Sapphire Nitro when it launches. i7 6700k with one of those and you are golden, I'd recommend a GTX 1070 but they don't seem to be in stock anywhere.

Plenty of GTX 1070 in stock here @ overclockers and if you want to save a few £££ the intel i5 6600k is more than good enough for gaming :)

Cheers gents, what kind of spec should I be looking at? I've been out of the loop for several years now! i5/16gb/gtx1070 a good base?

Nvidia is anything but future proof considering their abysmal DX12 performance. For the mentioned games they do pretty well tho. Still, the best option for value would be an RX 480 then sell it when the 490 arrives and upgrade to that.

i5 + 16gb is a good starting point otherwise.

When will the 490 be arriving? Are there any major CPU/GPU arrivals in the next few weeks/months I should be aware of?

You would be better of building yourself if you want to keep it below £1000 as you will get better components, are you dead set on buying a prebuilt?

What kind of price difference are we talking? Would prefer it if possible.

Pretty good build, tho imo the nzxt 440 is overkill and it's not worth spending £100 on a case unless you're an enthusiast, and not in this budget. Too many good cases around £50 (e.g. Phanteks P400).

Hi there,

I've made one up here, gone with a blue/black theme. Let me know what you think. The case comes with 2 x 120mm (Blue LED) fans as intake in the front and a single 120mm (Blue LED) as exhaust at the back so you wouldn't have to worry about getting any additional case fans like you would have to with some cases.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,021.87
(includes shipping: £0.00)

Many thanks for this - nope don't already have a copy of Windows. Though feel that as I am a student may be able to get it somewhere at a discount.

Thank you for this!

Now purely for the sake of comparison (I have yet to decide on pre-built or do it myself) how much extra would it cost to have this spec built by OcUK?

Thank you. I can't seem to find anything on that £50 off promotion, if anyone could shed some light on that it would be most welcome.

How would this setup handle two monitors? I am eyeing up adding another 1440p U2515h to my setup at some point.. they are wonderful monitors :D
