I'm looking to put together a small build to play COD on. Wife/Son fed up with me monopolising the TV so thinking of ditching the series x for something that can sit comfortably on the office desk next to the MacBook. I realise there's new stuff on the horizon but isn't there always? I'll get a 27" 1440p highish refresh monitor that I can also use for work and hopefully get a couple of years out of it.

Asrock B650M PG Riptide (Socket AM5) DDR5 Micro-ATX Motherboard £154.99

AMD Ryzen 7 9700X Eight Core 5.50GHz (Socket AM5) Processor - Retail £308.99

Kingston FURY Beast 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 PC5-48000C40 6000MHz Dual Channel Kit £115.99

Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO ARGB Dual Tower CPU Air Cooler £44.99

Crucial P3 2TB M.2 2280 PCI-e 3.0 NVMe Solid State Drive £119.99

Powercolor Radeon RX 7900 XT HellHound 20GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card £619.99

Gigabyte 27 M27Q-X 2560x1440 IPS 240Hz 1ms FreeSync KVM Switch LED Backlit Gaming Monitor £288.95

That's a total of £1,665.88 without case and PSU.

Case, I'd like to get the NR200, v1 with the normal layout.

PSU, not sure really but something SFF around the 1000w mark.

What do you think? Any glaring errors? This is around the 1800-1900 budget I'd ideally like to stick to.

Thanks, appreciate the help. Food for thought, I'd not really considered the 6 core stuff as I assumed it'd be a bit lacking somehow.

Nothing wrong with the 9700X really, I quite like it, but I was being a cheapskate with the spec for comparison's sake.

The CPU is the bit I'm the most unsure of really, the 7800x3d has gone up by about £100 and the 9800x3d is unobtainium so I thought it'd be the best 8 core to go for as it was low power draw and the newest mainstream one AMD do. I've been completely out of the loop for a while now so totally open to any suggestions.

In the absence of any meaningful deals on the 7800X3D/9800X3D the 9700X is the one I'd get too, though the 7700X is available near £250 and was around £220 during a couple of short deals that I think (based on prices elsewhere) will re-emerge shortly.

The core count is not something I'd worry about myself, but if you're sticking with 8 cores, that's my take.

I'm hoping I'll be more gpu than cpu bound at 1440, the cpu seems to be more of an issue at 1080p as far as I can tell so hopefully I won't get buyers remorse with the 9700. Freesync's range is up to 144hz so as long as I can hit 144fps consistently I'll be very happy.

Should be doable in most games, I'd think, assuming the GPU can do that.

This is a recent comparison:

Ahh, thanks, been a while since I posted so had my MM access taken away, I'll need to be more active to get it back.

15 poss in 3 months, and gets reactivated automatically (might take a day to register, not sure on that). go to gaming section/what film you last watched etc...you'll do it in a day or two..can't remember max posts a day...but you made 6 in this thread, so only 9 more to go
