Ooh had forgotten about the ViewSonic XG2703-GS might have to see if I can get my hands on one to see what it is like.

Problem with Acer its such a lottery - you can get some really nice panels from them or some really problematic or just poor QC panels :|

The Viewsonic and the Acer use the same panels.

There are only a small number of different panels used in all these monitors anyhow - the implementation and quality control can be widely different though :s

I was wrong, It's the Asus PG279Q and the Acer XB271HU that use the same panels. The Viewsonic uses the same panel as the Acer XB270HU. I can't imagine there's much difference in quality control, seeing as that will have been done by AU Optronics. I would imagine it's just luck of the draw all over.

I have a few Asus IPS monitors and they all bleed to lesser or greater extent. I think I agree with Hornestinger though, every monitor is a compromise. You have to choose the attributes you want most and the "defects" you can live with. Personally, I don't find the bleed to be much of an issue. It's only really noticeable if you look for it. But whatever floats your boat.

If I didn't notice it, I honestly wouldn't care. I was happy with my first Asus monitor until I played Mass Effect Andromeda and noticed the BLB, so I sent it back, just to get another that was just as bad.

BLB is a bummer in darker games. This is my brand new LG monitor from Overclockers:

It's OK for brighter games, but for Elite Dangerous and other space related games it's awful. I don't know how people can settle for it, but then I have some TNs with near zero problems and and an AMVA which you could mistake as being off on a black screen.

Yeah its all over the place these days

its one reason I've stuck with my Dell 2560x1080 UW for a secondary monitor as its reasonable for BLB - when I tried some 1440p UWs with an idea to replace it they were all pretty much like your image and didn't have as good image quality as the Dell.

You just put me off LG IPS screens. That is freaking awful.

Sadly its more often than not the way now - as I commented on awhile back I was walking through a newly upgraded office a few months back (something like 80 PCs IIRC) and they weren't cheap monitors and like more than half had RMA worthy backlight bleed :s

I am seriously considering getting a dell gsync screen, how are the colours on these panels compared to an IPS panel? will i notice the difference

The S2716DG can be calibrated fairly easily to reasonable decent levels but you won't get the deep saturated detail in dark colours of an IPS and probably have to make some compromise in black crush (though the latest revision A04 seems a bit better for that) - superficially it might look something like an IPS panel but closer inspection will show the differences and obviously you have gamma shift/viewing angles to deal with as well.

These monitors are premium price but some of the defects are just unforgivable

With backlight bleed, ips is just the worst. I'll be avoiding ips for my next monitor.

I'm eying up a Samsung ultrawide that uses a VA quantum dot panel.

Although it has no gsync

Yup, looks pretty bad.

It's about average for an ips monitor these days though

I had horrendous problems when I bought my current monitor. I swapped it out about 4 times before I got one vaguely acceptable. Then the power circuitry failed on it and I got a slew of lousy refurbished junk sent to me until I eventually got my failed one back having been repaired.

Absolute nightmare buying a monitor these days

Yeah Samsung made a lot of statement about G-Sync variants of the quantum dot monitors "to follow." Unfortunately though seems they were full of wind and **** as nothing ever materialised.

I sent an email asking about them and was told they had no plans at present to launch G-Sync monitors.

Oh well **** Samsung, there's always the new Rog ultrawide curved coming soon

Indeed, the one thing I hate about Asus stuff is it's massively overpriced. About time Dell jumped into the gaming monitor segment properly with both feet.

Unfortunately, Asus seem to be the only ones pushing the envelope with gaming monitors hence the extortion for being first to market.

It all depends on purpose as to whether or not you want to go TN or IPS, in my opinion. If you play fast paced games where graphics aren't what you care about then TN is what you need/want - I have a BenQ XL2430T and it's one of the more recommended TN 144Hz monitors as it apparently has pretty decent colour compared to typical TN panels (I've not bought anything different as it's done me fine so I have nothing to compare against) - though I must admit 3 years down the line the backlight bleed is bright as ****. It doesn't bother me personally but I know it'd put some people off.
