Thinking of getting a 24-25" 1440p Dell monitor, my only concern is how this res looks on a smaller screen. I do want it to look nice and sharp, but not too small that I have to use scaling. I sit about 50cm from a screen if that helps. Previous screen was a 1080p 24" and I felt the DPI was too low and things didn't look as crisp. 27" 1440p looked better, so I'm hoping the 25" 1440p will look even sharper for text.

I briefly owned both the Dell U2515H & AOC Q2577PWQ (pretty sure both monitors used the same panel, but the AOC was cheaper at the time) early last year and 1440p on them looked excellent, a better than 1080p by a country mile in my opinion. You shouldn't needn't worry about the scaling within Windows if that's your primary concern as Windows 10 scales just fine, I had both of mine set to 125% I seem to recall as it makes everything in Windows comparable in terms to size as 1080p but many people out there will still default to standard 100% scaling as well as things such as the task bar are not all that smaller at all. I can confirm as well that if you look closely at say text on the screen, it's a lot smoother / clearer when compared to 1080p and the pixels are harder to pick out as well which is to be expected.

Personally for me I felt that 25" 1440p was the right choice, I also considered just jumping straight to 27" but having briefly experienced 27" in the likes of that high street PC store many times - it simply just feels to big despite being tempted. I'm currently considering a new monitor again at the moment as I've got the itch to jump to 144hz but sadly I will have to stick to TN panels rather than IPS due to my budget (I do miss IPS in terms of colour production), but 25" is at the top of my list regardless.

The resolution itself is fine on 24" but the problem is 24" is way too small and like your looking at a keyhole or something so 27" is the minimum size for a monitor atleast for me.
