So I'm in the market for a new monitor very soon.

For a u2711 and u2410 which may as well drop to one monitor
This probably means 34 inch

4k would be better for photography and could game at 1080 with good scaling

Or could go 1440p which would be less good for photography but 1070 may be able to give me opportunity to game at that res

It's a really hard choice!

So it's better to drive a monitor at its actual res irrespective of the scaling?

That very much points to 1440p I guess
No way I'm paying the gpu grunt to play at 4k

It opens up more monitor options I suppose.
Have to keep away from curved with photography

This is a minefield

When I got my old monitors it was pretty obvious what was good.

FYI I've never had a g- sync monitor ever so would rather a better picture than refresh rate

I just want to say I tried a 4K monitor for Photography and I generally hated it! everything was way to sharp for my liking and just didn't look right , also you need to look at it like this , most of my work is published to Facebook and Instagram so no point editing in 4k , I've found that my sweet spot for Photography and gaming is 1440p Res. It just so easy on the eyes unlike 4k upclose.

4K TV and if you game at a distance is fantastic but I wouldn't recommend it up close.

Yeah I'm not a Professional Either. Thanks for the first hand advice.

Ill go for 1440.
There are so many monitors to look at.
I've been advised against curved because it gives a distorted perspective for critical work.
And I favour colour and accuracy over refresh rate. So want an IPS (dunno if VA are as good?)
32in probably as I'll be moving from 2 to 1 monitors

Those are my criteria.

@413x

I've just ordered the U3415W for £599.
Ultrawide, 1440p, IPS, 99% sRGB factory calibrated. 60hz, 5ms
Should tick both boxes for Photo-editing and some non-competitive gaming.
Just hope my desk is deep enough and its not too big.

I think that's closest I'll get to what I want at the moment

Yeah I'm not bothering now. Cost is too much for little gain
The u2711 will do until it dies
