1440p Setup

Out of those two cards id go with the 780. It has an extra gb of vram, a wider memory bus so will last longer at highest resolutions like 1440p. A 780 is about 18% faster than a 7979 ghz edition at 1440p so a 770 will be about the same, maybe a tad slower.

EDIT

Just realised you meant 770 SLI.

Not sure about the performance difference, but out of those options id go with the 780 for the reasons listed above. You can always add a second one at a later date if you want more performance, plus you have the extra 1gb of vram so you will never run into issues with lack of vram further down the line.

With the price of a 780 though he could almost get 2 770's for SLI and your Framerates would demolish that 780 to pieces.

He could but 2gb on 1440p is risky. Battlefield 4 is going to use more than 2gb at 1440p and above. Its on the limit now with games using 1.8-1.9gb of vram. I just thinks its too much of a risk because vram usage goes up not down as games get more advanced. With a 780 he'd be safe in that regard for much longer.

No problem mate, although the 770 I linked is the 4GB edition so technically would it not have more vram than the 780?

Good point, i didn't even click your link. I just assumed you were talking about the 2gb version, my bad. :D

Well that extra vram would take care of that problem so i guess you can't really go wrong with either in this scenario. I will leave it for others to chuck their two cents in now.

This.

I must say as well that it is always better to buy the fastest single card you can then add another later rather than buying 2 mid range cards now as that will be all the power you will ever get out of them. IMO buying 2 mid range cards is good if you dont want to keep them for more than a year. Yes, you get good instant performance but you cant add to it.

Please note thats my opinion :)

Not jel at all lol. Please bare in mind the heat of the top card will rise so make sure you have a good case/cooling. I am talking from experience. My SLi'd 4gb 680 setup, the top card does get toasty. Roll on the colder weather! ;)

I wouldn't get 2 x 770s. What are you trying to achieve? Are you trying to get high fps at 1440p? The 780 will do just fine in terms of that goal (you can even turn down AA which at 1440p is not even noticeable). My 780 is a reference Gigabyte card which overclocks to 1200+ core and achieves 30%+ performance over stock boost clocks. With 2 x 770s, you will have lots more power draw, noise and heat. Do you really want that? Or are you putting them under water, in which case you will be paying at least £850-900+!

770s are essentially rehashed 680s and if you want the 4GB versions, expect to pay £700+ for 2x SLI. If you must have that sort of performance, I'd go for a GTX 690. You can get lots for reasonable prices now.
