1440p with PS3?

I currently have a 1080p 23" LG monitor which I have connected to my desktop PC as well as my PS3. I would quite like to upgrade to a 1440p 27" monitor but i'm wondering do they work very well with the PS3.

Also does anyone have any recommendations for 1440p monitors. My pc has two GTX660s in SLI so i'm assuming it has the power to run a 1440p monitor.

I think I heard before that the PS3 will not upscale to 1440p, and that you would have to use it in 720p/1080p. I may be wrong though.

I have a Dell U27HM monitor, looks lovely at 1440p for PC. Connect PS3, runs at 1080p and looks awfull. Sky tv doesn't look great either.
