Hi,

Is VRR (HDMI 2.1) really needed for a 1440p gaming experience?

Im asking as there aren't many monitors out there with VRR at 1440p, I'm guessing on a 4K screen you get far more consistence FPS drops compared with 1440p setups hence why HDMI 2.1 is included with most 4k monitor nowadays

Don't want to hijack the thread but could anyone recommend a decent 1440P monitor on a budget? Say £150?

A few years back, there was an LG model which was the go to and a Gigabyte option which used the same panel. I don't think it's the same model, but the name rings a bell:

Have a shop around, it may be in stock elsewhere.

There is a slightly different model available and not out-of-stock, supposedly on offer:

There were a lot more options a month or 2 ago at that price point, but likely they are out of stock, etc, for the holiday period. My cousin picked up a couple of LG 1440p180Hz IPS for £150 each back in September.

Thanks. I think i'll look around as both are quite expensive and 1440P seems to be coming down in price. I'll keep my eye out for sales I think.

There are some good sales on right now across a fair selection of UK retailers. You should be able to find a good 1440p 144/165hz monitor for under 200 quid right now.

If you pushed the budget up, you'd be able to get the 180-200hz 1440p monitors that often use the slightly higher clocked panels that are really great for response times, particularly for an IPS monitor.

Would an overclocked panel be OK for long term use? I'll be going to Costco early next week, apparently they've had some good deals recently so will have a look there.

I'm looking at Overclockers monitor selection for 27" 1440P and the prices are a bit high - do they have a sale eventually coming up?

I've seen this for £135 delivered from a competitor, would it be any good? Can't find the specific model on any YouTube videos unfortunately. :(

I have ordered the AOC Gaming Q27G4XD for £135 unfortunate its a Birthday present so cant review it until February.

Stick to displayport if you can, if you have to use HDMI ensure your GPU, any device between (ie a switch of AVR) and the screen itself is capable of what you want and devices are rated for

wow, prices for fast 1440p IPS monitors have really tanked!
£139 for that dell is a steal!
That particular Dell model is a bit ropey, I'd definitely encourage people to avoid the G2725D and instead get the G2724D if both are an option.

I'm not sure what Dell have done with the newer G2725D version but it's a completely different panel (worst in all areas) and they've gimped a ton of features (no VRR over HDMI, weird vignette around the borders, terrible non-adjustable stand) compared to the G2724D. It's also the only IPS monitor I've ever seen that has worst viewing angles than a TN monitor I have here.
