144hz or 60hz on my monitor

can someone please advise me if I'm playing a game and its 90fps should I set my monitor to 60hz or 144hz. Am I rite in understanding if a game don't play over 144fps 144hz wont do anything. thanks in advance

set it to 144hz. If your game is at 90fps, then your monitor is still outputting at 144hz, just the input source is 90fps.

Set desktop to 144hz.
