144hz. Worth it?

Once you go higher refresh rates, there is no going back (IMO)

Once you go adaptive sync, there is no going back either (IMO)

G-Sync removes tearing; and will make the game feel smoother at lower frame rates. :)

On the benefits of higher refresh rate monitors, can you mix them with 60hz in surround. If you was upgrading 3 monitors it feels like less of a hit to get a center monitor then add the others later. Perhaps you cant run the center monitor at more than 60 hz if the monitor has the option to adjust frequency? or can they run at different speeds. having a smoother center screen is more important than the two side monitors in your peripheral vision. Maybe they cant and for those of us with surround/eyefinity you just have to swallow the financial hit all at once.

I've used a 144hz 1080p monitor and it wasn't just gaming that was smoother... Everything was smoother. The mouse courser glided over the screen like butter!

Loosing the screen real estate will hurt though..

Yup, people don't mention it enough, while I love the effect for gaming I browse the web or code on an IDE much more often and the effect there is bigger. Text/images being smoother as you scroll is improved so much by a higher hz screen and the response time/image clarity/significantly reduced motion blur from high response rate is all fantastic. This is also why freesync doesn't particularly interest me, well until/unless they work out how to keep the refresh rate high, ie drop below 72fps and refresh an image twice to keep refresh rate high, etc. As with so many things you get diminishing returns so 60 to 90hz gives a far bigger improvement visually than 90 to 120hz. As such freesync where you're mostly maintaining the refresh rate above say 85hz would work for me. But refresh rate of say 50hz linked to 50fps is something I have no interest in at all.

Depends if you got good enough card/s. I find 970GTX on full with 144hz is a no no but 120hz still looks amazing and that what I been doing for last 2 days. But been messing around with different hz as only has mine for last week and abit. Still testing. Although some games don't like it. Take skyrim that goes really funny and PhysX get messed up.

What refresh rate you're running the screen at shouldn't make a difference.

Even if your graphics card can't push out sustained 144fps in a game you will still be benefiting from the higher refresh rate screen any time your fps is above 60.

YES. Once you've played 120hz/144hz and experienced the speed and smoothness, there is absolutely no going back to anything less if you're a gamer. Add in to the mix Freesync or G-Sync and the epicness just got even better. I've a 144hz BenQ monitor with Freesync, it's absolutely fantastic, just another level entirely.

Hi Guys,

I've seen many people say that having a 144hz monitor completely changes the way games feel. I've got two Dell UltraSharp U2414H which I'm being ever more tempted to sell to finance a single 24" 144z monitor.

I'm getting quite into CS:GO so would be interested if others have experience with the difference, especially when it comes to CS.

Cheers

I don't know if you have an SSD inside your computer, but if you do, then i'm sure that you will remember your first reaction when the SSD revealed to you just how much your Hard drive was holding back the performance of your computer.

Well, once you start gaming with a 144hz monitor, you will go through that same WOW experience again once you realise how much a 60hz monitor was holding back your gaming experience.

You will not go back.

Had this screen for one week now, this pretty much sums it up. It's a fantastic gaming experience.

I had a Dell U2515H IPS screen before hand for about 2 weeks ( returned it due to yellow tinge on one side) and although the picture quality might have been marginally better (BenQ xl2730z is a fantastic TN screen) the gaming quality is night and day.

So it's a yes from me!

I'm curious, how's the difference between 100Hz and 144Hz, vs 60Hz and 100Hz? As noticeable an improvement?

Most people's ability to take advantage of faster refreshes both in noticing the extra smoothness/response feel wise and the visual information tapers off after around 85Hz - so there is a massive jump from anything that pushes you from 60Hz to above 85Hz and then beyond that it will vary a lot person to person - personally I hardly notice 100 to 144Hz and can't really tell 144 from 120 in blind testing outside of scenarios where the framerate multiplier works better (i.e. doesn't result in frame skipping or duplication) but 60 to 120+ is massive for me.
