14900k to 9800x3d

I do have a sim setup but I play a lot of different sims all in vr. What is the advantage of turning off HT in the bios for the 14900k?

HT off generally gives higher single thread performance, less heat, potentially higher sustained boost clocks and/or easier to achieve higher overclocks.

When I did a bit of testing of it I found it a mixed bag - probably 2/3rd of games I tried saw a minor benefit but half of those despite the small increase in displayed FPS but felt worse to play and several games despite higher max FPS had worse min FPS which you noticed more than the increase in max FPS (which I suspect is due to the load being slightly moved to the E cores).

Can I have it? OCUK has de-listed it off the website, can't even pre-order it.
The 9800x3d? They have been 2 post so far in the for sale forums with people selling theirs.

Of course as well as OCUK getting their allowance of 9800x3d there are other retailers. A lot of them have decided to cash in and what I thought were previously good retailers were now charging an extra £50-£70 on top.

This not about the dollar to pound conversion or brexit stuff this is just large known companies scalping us. Might as well went on fleabay and paid a scalper. One ebayer got scalped on the price from a known retailer as he left the retailer packaging on and then he obviously was trying to scalp someone else. Like double jeopardy but more like double scalped.

They were charging like £519.99 the retailer. The fleabay price was like £599.

And there seems to what I suspect retailers using fleabay to sell at 519.99 but this is only the preorder price they don’t actually have it in hand and they are waiting for their allowance just like OCUK is.

If you have a tuned 14900k (HT off, push p/e/ring) and do some basic tuning on ram, you'd be hard pressed to notice. A 5090 will be a better upgrade esp as high end VR is often GPU bound due to pushing so many pixels.

I do mainly simracing in VR (G2 with Assetto Corsa) and I rather crank up supersampling over anything.
everyone seems to say that about vr but we all really know what you are up to ;)

on a serious note I assume you get no motion sickness or weirdness when you stop playing ?

I really could use some advice. I impulse bought the 9800x3d and not sure if I should do the upgrade from my 14900k. The 14900k is great with my 4090 but in vr I was hoping that the 9800x3d would just push the framerates a little more. I mainly play vr and shooters. I'm thinking of just returning the cpu and sticking with the 14900k. Decisions decisions

Personally I'd not bother, it's a sidegrade as you're losing lots of performance in applications, gaining a little in most games. Over time the 14900k will likely fair better vs the 8 core 9800X3D, as more games use more threads over time (especially if PS6 is a 16 core) - but you'll probably have upgraded by then.
