I have sold my main system a little while ago and have been using the system that i primarily use for emulation. It has a 12600K, Asus B660M Tuf Gaming Wifi, 32Gb DDR4 3200Mhz and now has the 3070ti from my old machine. So i recently purchased a 14900KF to build a new system but was wondering what performance i will be losing if i use the current system with the new CPU with DDR4 rather than DDR5? From what i have seen, people who have done tests with comparable motherboards but versions with the DDR4 3600/4000 and DDR5 6400 state there is about 2-10% performance difference depending on the task. I will probably have to undervolt/limit the power of the CPU to get it not to run silly hot until my Freezer 3 360 arrives later this month, so has anyone ran something similar then noticed a significant performance increase when they finally upgraded to a DDR5 board/Memory?

If it makes any difference i will be looking to buy a 9070XT later this week if one is available.

HUB did an updated video on this awhile ago, which helped 'cos most of the articles are from 12th gen.

The differences can be surprisingly large, but they're going to be game/task dependent.

If you're someone who is sensitive to the lows/overall framerate consistency it is likely to be worth it, but if you're a high details gamer, probably not.

i had a 13500 on ddr4 3600mhz, when i grabble my 13900 and got a ddr5 board too, when watching bench marks there was around a 20% differance moving to ddr5.
i have very cheap 6000mhz cl36, and i can say there was a good uplift in all games i played and even a general feel and more speed/smother operation in windows

Thanks, I managed to get a great deal on a Gigabyte B760M Aorus Elite AX. Now to look out for some cheap DDR5 :)

I take it DDR5 6000MT/s CL30 or 6400MT/s CL32 is still the sweet spot?

Have you built it up yet and if so what do you think of that MB..? I hadn't considered the B760 chipset, not sure how they are in terms of their capabilities above that of say the Z790, albeit cheaper, although no overclocking. And the sharing of some resources, like PCI lanes etc.

Ah, good luck on that then, shouldn't be too bad on that one.

Remember a time when you could just order things when you wanted them, and also not be scalped..?!

Would not be so much of an issue if they just supplied a good amount of stock on release.

If stock is always available then there is no reason to scalpe that product, When there is hardly any stock people will scalpe to resell on for huge profit.

You could say the same about buyers, if people where not buying these scalped products the sellers would be the 1s out of pocket

From what I hear there should be an abundance of cards tomorrow. I guess what suppliers consider and abundance is subjective. To be honest I will buy if there is one available and under 600 I will get one. If not I will just put my 3070ti in my new build and wait. Purchasing from a scalper isn’t going to happen.

My comment wasn't specific of the reported large stock piles with the AMD card, having them since January(?) must have helped with that. But, generally as we seem to live in the age of paper launches and depleted meagre stocks, with ever increasing prices.

Oh yeah i agree.. I think it started with the Wii where you had to wait in queues for them and then wasnt guaranteed that you would get one. Then exasperated by Covid with people trying to scam a few quid by having the cash on hand to snipe stocks and then bump up the price by loads. The way to combat these is ensuring that a silly amount of stock is available and they will be left with them and not make any money or even lose money on taking the mickey scalping them.

Did you get lucky with your GPU...?
