Great thanks, yea I'm running 32gb now and don't really think I need to go 64 any time soon.
14700K should be able to do 7200-7600 c34/36 on XMP fairly easily. Price isn’t that much higher.
Really hard to do that because with a bazillion cores on these CPUs and variable clocks the benchmarks have to be app specific, but it is around 3-4x as fast in multithreaded apps if you compare to the 10400 which has the same cores and core count as your CPU.Unreal thanks guys, trying to see if I can find 8700k vs 14700k overall... that would be interesting!
Got myself a 13700K yesterday however.. must be an absolute melon because it won't even finish Cinebench on stock settings. Voltage and temps don't seem too bad, requests 1.35v and vdrop down to 1.31v during cinebench, however application error about 2 mins in.
Wondering if this might be bios bug at this point but the SP score for the chip is 82... which is low imo.
Will try a cmos reset later and try again. Increasing voltage slightly seems to help but still crashes.
This is on a Asus Z690i on bios 2305 so will likely try a bios update as well just incase.
Just for interests sake bring the clocks down 200 Mhz.
@Jay85 Have you turned off the default (?) Asus overclocking features..? Also the power limits settings would be applicable when running Cinebench, they tend to be maxed out rather than setting to Intel's limits.
Will give it a go tonight
Yep, enforced all limits. No Asus Gimmicks going on.
Will double check the PL's 1 and 2 but pretty sure i manually set those to enforce limits. Weirdly never had this issue with my 12700K even on auto. I do see the chip pulling nearly 280w during the run though so it may well be running max PL.
You might want to watch Buildzoid's videos on the subject, he has a CPU that fails Cinebench at 'stock' too. Will give it a go tonight

Good luck, perhaps some of those settings can be a little "hidden", within the Asus BIOS..? Unless your boards has a Intel default profile, then you could adapt from there.
Isn't the max power draw set at 253w for that CPU...?

Rambling about why some intel 13th/14th gen i9s and i7s aren't stable.

Have they fixed the issue with the contact frame on the 790 boards? I got a frame for my 690, forgot to fit it, but not I've sold the board and got a 790. So if it's worth while I'll fit it.
I dont think anything changed, all the material i've seen on 790 boards they still use contact frames.
I'll still it on then. Suppose it won't harm anyway. Hope it lowers temps a bit too, very hot these chips.
I wish mine would actually work as intended but sadly i think i have a potato.
Can you not return it? Or whack it on eBay?
