Is there really that much different between the first 2 mbp in speed to justify the extra £150?

are you talking about the 2.53Ghz and the 2.66ghz? no there really isn't and you'd be very hard pressed to properly notice a speed increase, if your buying, go for the 2.53ghz it'll do everything the faster will do and you can throw what you save at a case or some more ram
