£150-£200 upgrade from a 6600GT : PCI-E

I know this is asked all the time and i have read other posts but i would be grateful if someone folk could give me the best bang for buck upgrade from a 6600GT for £150 and £200.

Probably either the 6800GS or if you can find an X800XL/XT for under £200.

edit: I automatically assumed you were on AGP for some reason

Ahh sorry i am PCI-E (3Ghz p4 and 1Gb DDR @ 800fsb..if that makes any difference )

An X850XT in PCI-E form for ~£160 is one of the best upgrades you could make for that price however if you are happy to overclock you could get the PowerColor ATI Radeon X800 GTO16 for ~£130 and clock it to the same speeds because it is effectively the same card but underclocked.

Cool. At a push would it better to look at the OcUK GeForce 7800GT 256MB GDDR3 @ £211 ....how does that stack up against the X850XT in terms of perfprmance?

Worth the extra, it is a much better card and is current generation. The X850XT is a fine card but simply put the 7800gt is superior

and as Gibbo himself has posted, this is the better card to get as it overclocks far better than the 7800GT & thus offers more performance.
