I have a budget of £150 for a new graphics card, currently own a NVidia GTX 460 768MB version. Either ATI or NVidia, I want to play BF4 at least Ultra settings....

Can some of you with more knowledge recommend me a card please?

...you are not asking a lot for a £150 card are you? :p ...unless you are gaming at below 1920 res...

Yes the resolution I use is 1920*1280 on a non HD monitor? Are you saying in order to achieve ultra settings on BF4 I will need a higher budget?

For that type of performance you are looking at a R280 / 7970. They're about £230.

You could take a bit of gamble and get that 7950 on Today Only give a good OC and it should be good for BF4.

I would say a 7970/280x should be the bare minimum for your expectation...and when Mantle feature get implemented next month, the performance boost might be just enough to make it deliver better frame rate than it current can. To be frank though, if taking Mantle out of the equation, I would get the 290 Pro at least (but would wait for customer cooled cards rather than cards with reference cooler).

Also, what CPU you using? MF4 multiplayer would hammer the CPU quite hard as well.

My system spec is as follows..

i5 [email protected] 4.01GHz (clocked)
8GB of DDR3
Windows 7 64Bit
2 x Intel 80GB SSD in raid 0

Its a bit of an old school rig but I am currently playing BF4 on Nvidia's experience "optimal settings" which is low :-/

The resolution I actually play on is 1680x1050 (i have another monitor which is the 1920 res but that remains off whilst playing)

I want to upgrade my CPU to an I7 but socket 1156 prices are ridiculous! hoping for a 870 to come for sale.

Are prices likely to come down? I can wait till xmas I guess...

If you are only gaming on 1680 res, I would imagine a 7950 would be the most optimal in terms of weighting the cost vs performance vs your expectation. You just have to try to find one at £180 or below.

As for CPU, yes your current CPU might cause a bit of dipping in frame rate when playing on BF4 multiplayer. Coming from what you currently got, you are on the right mindset considering the i7 860/870. The thing is you shouldn't be looking at buying these CPU new, as their prices don't drop even after they became EOL...instead, try to look at 2nd hand, you should hopefully be able to pick up a i7 860/870 for around £80. However, I would still suggest you upgrade the graphic card first and see how well your current CPU is couping first, before decide if you really need to go through the hassle of changing CPU.

cheers mate, hopefully if all goes well this weekend I shall be acquiring a 2nd hand MSI HD 7970 Lightning BOOSTED Edition 3072MB for £160+my card so should resolve my issue! I will keep my eyes peeled for a i7 870...

A bit of a fail here...

My new card does not fit inside my Antec 300 case! I thought the card would be around the same size but did not research :-(

I think the only option is to buy a larger case, I havent got much of a budget but does anyone know a case that will allow me to install the card problem free? There's 100s on the website but I was wanting a little help. This also got me thinking whether the card would be compatible with the rest of my PC...

I have a Asus P7P55D-E mobo (it has 2 x PCI slots but only require one with this card...the mobo its small factor I believe and I have a OCZ Stealth xstream 2 600W.

You ain't the first person having problem with the Antec 300 for fitting larger card :p

If you don't mind getting your hands dirty and got the tools and time, may be you can consider cutting out the HDD bay like this? (Assuming you don't need so many bay)

I have attempted the mod on the PC and I have got the graphics in however my issue is my PSU has 2 x 6 Pin (plus a seperate 2 pin) connector but I need a 2 x 8 pin in order to power this card up....
Can someone confirm the item below is what I need x 2 of....

looking at google it says your psu has a 6pin and a 6+2 pin, the 6+2 pin is your '8pin' and you'll need 1 8pin adapter which should come with the card so check the box.

its the need for the adapter why I suggested getting a new psu, while the adapter is 'fine' I personally would be wanting to use it long term especially if you'll be overclocking.

I wont be clocking it yet, just got my money tied up in other things (more important) hence trying to do this as cost effective as possible. I think the adaptor I bought should work, i noticed it says PCI 2.0, the card is PCI 3 however my mobo is prolly only a 2.0, hope its backwards compat LOL
