Good Morning Guys,

I'm under orders to source an upgrade for a GTX 760 as a Birthday gift.
Off the top of my head would be a used GTX 970, However as it is a gift they are insisting it's "new in the box".

Also it's needed tomorrow as such, used would be hard to source fast enough anyway.

Anyone got any suggestions and OcUK links?
I don't see anything standing out as much of an upgrade for that price, maybe it can be pushed to £175 but certainly not £200.

Any suggestions before I make a call and tell them it's just not worth it?

For me I would do whatever I could to make a 1060 or 480 work as the 380x wouldn't be a £175 upgrade?

Can you flog the 760 for them? There is a 480 b grade if that could be "tolerated" it's £220.

as above the 760 was quite a punchy little card,

The 380x would give a boost, I had a 280x and at 1080p it was a very capable GPU but if you can agree a £150 + then we sell the old card afterwards to make up the extra spent, then this -

Is crazy power per pound for £191!

I'd argue this is an even better deal! :D If you cannot go beyond £150 I'd start looking at the second hand market and try to find a cheap 290x/GTX 970.

EDIT: Tl:dr apparently. -.- Completely missed the point of the thread. Yeah the GTX 970 would be the best deal if you need it now!

Thanks for the input guys, To help things along as suggested, I have agreed to buy the old 760 off them for £50 so the budget is now £200.

So a new can of worms...

Which of the £199 970's to go for?
I guess I could sweet talk this due to the cash back, I assume such offers are still valid on these older cards.

Never had an Asus myself, always been Gigabyte, so for £200 is the above going to be the best bang for buck?

Remember it has to be in-stock as it's needed tomorrow, Nephews Birthday :)

As an aside, I will nip round and check the PSU, as I don't think it has a 8 pin connector, (it's a 500w OCZ, remember them :D) yay more potential cost.

That ASUS card will be a night and day upgrade from the 760. Get it in next 3 hours for delivery tomorrow

I'd try for a second hand 970, or if you're very lucky a second-hand reference rx 480 4GB (which might be flashable to GB). Seen a few of those on a certain auction site.

Normaly I would, but it's not for me and it's needed tomorrow so options are limited.

Just checked on the PSU it has a 6 pin as standard but the 8 pin is chained off 2x molex connectors with an adaptor.

It's a OCZ 500w stealthxstream, very old, but on paper it should be fine with a 970?
The 760 thats in now needs the 6 pin and the 8 pin, so he should be ok? As the 970 is 8 pin only.

Just googled about the cash back, it's not open any more. (thanks OcUK, update your listings) Still, I guess it's totaly worth the extra £26 over the cheapest 970?

970 draws less power than a 760 by 35w so you should be plain sailing there :)

145w Vs. 170w

Thank you die shrink :D

The £190.99 MSI is the one I meant, seems a bargain and has 3 years warranty still

I'd argue it and say it's being advertised now really they don't have to honor it but give it a go :) is the EVGA still not on as that's got an offer of £20 cash back and at £215 you'll get it for £195! it's also a dual 6 pin card which is more ideal than the Asus 6 pin and 8 pin :)

You could buy a new 4GB 480 for about £183. As with all the new cards though, check which type of display adapter your monitor/TV has, as this will add to the cost if you need a converter. The 480 mentioned above only has HDMI or DisplayPort.

If I think I know the site you're on about, they were like £173 the other day :<

Adapters from display port to DVI are about £4, so quite cheap
