or should i get this instead
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-012-EA

the conditions are:
  • has to be noob friendly (i've never built a comp before this is fist time) though i have done my homework
  • does it have to have ddr3 ram or does this mean it's mearly an option and it supports ddr2 aswell?
  • please can u comment on what size psu i would need for this mobo and two 9800gtx

thanks for any help you can give me

for 2x 9800GTX you will need an nForce board - the X48 doesn't support SLI.

Unless you already have the 2 9800 cards - you'd be better off going for 1x 260GTX MAXCORE or a 280GTX along with a P45 motherboard.

PSU wise I'd reccomend looking at 600+watt either corsair, OCZ or gigabyte.

thanks for the info but i forgot to mention i have a buget more to £150 for the graphics card, therefore, if i get that 260gtx then i would have only £100 to spend on the processor and £60-80 for the case (prf with psu)

any suggestions?

(plz attach link) if possible:):):)

I would buy the case and PSU seperate - the PSUs that come with most cases are usually generic and not very good.

Personally I'd be looking at something like this as a general guide line (and your choice of case):

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-008-ZT

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-191-IN

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-124-GI

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-018-OC

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-114-OC

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-138-SE

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-016-OT

comes to £620 not including case - tho a couple of items are on "this week only" discount.

Also if your not overclocking you could swap the RAM for the 6400 version and save £20-25 or if you don't need 4gig save even more money on the RAM.

What about a monitor? if you need to budget for that too it would need a bit of a rethink.

I wouldn't advise going for a DDR3 based setup unless your planning to go for an i7 rig and that would cost £700 just for the CPU and motherboard :S

A 9800GTX+ would handle pretty much everything you can throw at it unless you play at high res. But if you were thinking of getting one now and SLIing later I'd highly reccomend going for a 260GTX instead.

I'll throw in some alternative items as well that should all work together

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-278-AS (don't reccomend personally from the problems I've seen but they seem quite popular)

I'm not a fan of the nVidia 7 series personally - the only ones that seem any good are the 790 and they are expensive just to have the SLI option and require DDR3 RAM which is still a bit more expensive than DDR2...

If you do decide to go down this route then the EVGA ones have the best reputation.

The P45 chipset on the gigabyte board has had time to mature and is very stable and good performance. I like gigabyte personally as they've been the most reliable boards for me in the last couple of years.
