So after getting used to using my brothers old pc for playing games on (Knights of the old Republic primarily...forgot how much I wish Mass Effect had been more like this) I'm finding that my main worry of moving to a smaller screen from my tv/consoles of before is a non issue. So far I prefer the smaller screen. Which leads me to decide im going back on the want-to-build-a-pc train. So far ive come up with this

Total : £1,497.10 (includes shipping : £16.85).

I get the feeling ive forgotten something really important though. So a) Have I forgotten something? and b) anything else you would recommend for the price? Or for less saving money is always preferable.

I may end up waiting and seeing what happens with the new cpu's/gpu's in the first half of the year but depending on price I may still end up going for something like this to save a bit of cash since these parts may be a bit cheaper then.

Id get windows 7

Thats some interesting builds. Better than my ideas thats for sure. I had always assumed a tower would be better for future upgrades/cooling etc compared to a smaller unit? Also I see nobody recommending Windows 8. Is it really that bad. The impression I got was apart from the new start screen the OS itself is actually faster?

Should point out I have stereo headphones so if I was to fit in a headset I would want a surround sound one.

You can switch the case for something else that's personal preference really

Oh I dont mean to say I dont like the prodigy because I do. I just had wrongly assumed that mini itx was too limiting for a gaming rig. its also a lot more desk friendly which helps as a tower case would probably have to go on the floor and id rather it on a desk.

It's really down to you fella. What I would say is that in your initial spec you have a HUGE case but the mobo in the bundle is mATX. You really want a full size ATX mobo in there for the extra PCI slots if you are worried about expanding or adding another GPU down the line

putting a 170mm long psu in the prodigy isnt a good idea ;p

You are quite right bud, max is 160mm for the case but 150mm would be better. Well spotted, I thought i had the 550W non modular still in the basket from doing another spec. My mistake, thanks for that Tamm

Ok thats my bad I hadnt realised that it was mATX. Also after measuring out the colossus as much as I like its Dead Space vibes it is massive so the prodigy is looking pretty tasty. Also any reason you chose the 7950 over the 7970 is it not worth the upgrade? Im still wary of buying now instead of waiting but I feel like I may get better performance to money ratio now but that could be me talking myself into going now instead of waiting...

Yes it does have a Dead Space look to it, they should have called it the Isaac lol

Always best to talk things through fella. I just used the Windforce 7950 as it was cheaper and with an overclock you will get better performance. If you want the 7970 by all means get it. The 7950 is no slouch when "boosted" and it saved you £60 to put back in your pocket or use elsewhere in the budget.

Yeah my thinking with the 7970 im buying the top end card now so it should last me a while since even with that im still saving. Just to really help maxing games out

Ok so heres a new update taking everything into account (I think)

This an ok PSU? seems to fit the size requirements. Went for the black Prodigy since it has a mesh front and went for a large front fan to help with the cooling then will move the front 120mm fan to the top.

*please check the size of some of them.

There are reviews for all of these I believe, as you can only run a single GFX card, you will find that 500 will be fine with that single 7950, but a bit more wont hurt.

Ok 160 is the max depth and thats what most of these ive checked are was hoping for 150 just to make it a bit less of a squeeze but i reckon ill probably grab the corsair

I think this particular card is voltage locked ? But even so it's still a good price at only £20 more than the 7950.

That is pretty tempting as i wasnt really planning to mess around with the voltage was just going to get the best out of whatever card i got at stock voltage

Hows this? Figured out that case should fit fine in the space I have available now? Also means I have the option to Crossfire etc later should I want to

EDIT: I should point out the graphics card is doing my head in for the reason that the friends I have who game on pc's all swear by Nvidia and wont even entertain AMD but as far as I can see the equivilent 670 windforce isnt worth 100 more. As much as they do go on about physx (which does look good) its just not in enough games to be worth it as far as I can see.
