Hi guys, my friend has currently asked me to spec him a gaming pc for £1500. It will not be used for much else than Gaming and browsing the web though he might be streaming. He wants to go for a red theme and he has his heart set on the Bitfenix Colossus Red LED Big Tower Windowed Case so that's one thing off the list. He will require Windows 8.1 but he will not need a monitor and the keyboard and mouse will be outside the budget. He also would like one of corsair CPU liquid coolers but he does not want to overclock. Not much point getting watercooling since he won't overclock but I have been trying to convince him he is missing out in a lot of performance. He also hates AMD so no AMD Graphics Cards or Processors. I think that's about it... oh wait I forgot that he also need WiFi so either a card or a USB stick.

Thanks, Justin

Will he not be overclocking full stop? Absolutely no need for water-cooling then, even stock cooler would do fine. Probably a H87 motherboard with a non-K series Intel CPU (i7 4771) if not overclocking. £1500 is a nice amount of money, could pick up a top end graphics card if not slightly lower such as a 780/780Ti. An ASRock Fatal1ty H87 board could do quite nicely. You can get a decent WiFi card for £20-30 I believe, though someone may have to correct me on that.

he needs to learn to not like either amd or nvidia and like a good gpu/cpu instead. he also needs to learn not to choose a really old case and to overclock.

seems ridiculous to spend so much on a system you're not going to OC! especially if you're going to bother watercooling it, perhaps direct him to this thread where he can see people agreeing with your sentiment regarding the issue! does he understand people that spent somewhat less money will actually have a faster system than he does?

if he's worried about component lifetime, he should know i have an old i3 530 still overclocked to 4.2 Ghz after 3 years of almost 24/7 use, and that's without watercooling, and 2.93 > 4.2 Ghz is quite a hefty overclock compared to OCing one of the new i5/i7's
